South Africa v Sri Lanka, 2016-17

Wisden's review of the first ODI, South Africa v Sri Lanka, 2016-17

15-Apr-2017
At Port Elizabeth, January 28, 2017. South Africa won by eight wickets. Toss: South Africa. One day international debut: D. S. Weerakkody.
The teams returned to the scene of the First Test - and faithfully reprised their performances. South Africa's bowlers were again too hot for Sri Lanka's batsmen, even on another slow pitch, and victory was again achieved with time to spare. Put in, the Sri Lankans were limited to 181 by Parnell, who removed both openers cheaply, and Imran Tahir, who struck three times in four overs after Mendis and Chandimal had added 72 for the third wicket; Tahir did not concede a boundary, and went for only 26 runs, the tightest ten overs of his ODI career. Mendis alone passed 28, while six of his team-mates failed to reach double figures. Amla then put on 71 with de Kock and 60 with du Plessis. The rout was completed by an unbroken stand of 54 at better than a run a ball between du Plessis and de Villiers.
Man of the Match: Imran Tahir.
