Trading famine for feast, Pietersen hit his second hundred in four days to propel England to a 4-0 sweep that partially - but only partially - atoned for the Test hammering. He had scored centuries in successive one-day international innings (he did not bat in an intervening match) once before, in South Africa near the start of his England career in 2004-05. This was England's first one-day whitewash against a team other than Zimbabwe or Bangladesh since 1997, when they defeated Australia 3-0. Pietersen faced 153 balls, sharing crucial stands of 109 with Kieswetter and 59 with Patel after England slipped to 68 for four. When he fell, for his highest score in this format, with six balls to go, the job was all but done. Pakistan's total of 237 was disappointing after they had reached 112 for one in the 23rd over. With Anderson and Broad rested, and Swann nursing a calf strain, Dernbach returned a career-best in his first international appearance of the tour, while Hampshire's left-arm spinner Danny Briggs bowled tidily for two wickets on his England debut.
