At Lauderhill, July 1, 2012. West Indies won by 61 runs. Toss: West Indies.
Gayle did not face a ball until the third over, then played out a maiden from Mills - but he still
went on to top-score again, with 53 from 39 deliveries. Dwayne Bravo was on hand to help raise 53
off West Indies' final four overs. Their total proved well beyond the depleted New Zealanders, who
were checked by Narine's variations: he picked up four wickets, including the openers from
successive balls. A wide, nine singles and two runs off a leading edge accounted for the 12 he
conceded. It was quite an introduction to captaincy for Williamson, standing in for the injured Taylor.
At 21 years and 328 days, he was the youngest man to lead New Zealand.
Man of the Match: S.P. Narine
Man of the Series: C.H. Gayle.
