Zimbabwe v England 1996-97

Zimbabwe completed a 3-0 whitewash in an emphatic manner with their biggest win in limited-overs internationals. Captain Campbell set a fine example by scoring a stylish and undefeated 80 but was dramatically upstaged by Brandes. Nearly five years earlier, Brandes had led his country to a shock World Cup win against England in Australia by taking four for 21. Here, during a wonderful exhibition of swing and seam bowling, he captured England's top five wickets, including a hat-trick, as they struggled to 54. Every British newspaper reported that the team had been humiliated by a chicken farmer. England were already facing a stiff target of five an over, and that put them right out of contention. They failed to survive beyond 30 of their 50 overs, and only some late defiance from Croft and Mullally helped them into three figures. England still claimed a points victory in the drawn Test series, but Zimbabwe were one-day winners - by a knockout.
