Zimbabwe v South Africa
At Bulawayo, September 23
15-Apr-2003
At Bulawayo, September 23. South Africa won by 153 runs. Toss: South Africa.
South Africa began here, as in the Tests, with a batting massacre. A total of 363 for three was
their best in one-day cricket, beating 328 for three against Holland in the 1996 World Cup. It was
also the highest conceded by Zimbabwe, and a half-fit Streak yielded 80 runs, the most by any
Zimbabwean bowler. Of his colleagues, only Paul Strang emerged with any credit; seven no-balls
and 15 wides indicated their lack of discipline. Kirsten plundered 66 in 59 balls, Gibbs raced on
to 125 in 112, with 15 fours and two sixes, and Rhodes was the fastest of all, smashing 54 off
41. After this blitz Zimbabwe could aim only for respectability; Campbell saw to it with 81.
