Denesh Ramdin has fractured his right thumb while batting in a warm-up match and will be replaced in the West Indies squad by Carlton Baugh for the first three matches of the ODI series against Australia. Ramdin, who was named vice-captain for the series, will travel back to Trinidad & Tobago and is expected to be out for two weeks, which means he is likely to miss all five matches of the series and perhaps the two Twenty20 internationals too.
Baugh will have to leave Jamaica's match against T & T in the Regional Four-Day competition, in which he had scored a century on the first day, midway, and will be replaced by Horace Miller in the Jamaican line-up. Baugh, who is West Indies' first-choice keeper in Tests, has not played a limited-overs international since India's ODI series in the West Indies in June last year.
Ramdin replaced Baugh in the West Indies one-day XI after that series, after a year of being ignored. He impressed on the tour of India, scoring a fighting 96 in the fourth ODI, in Indore, but has now had his comeback interrupted by injury.
West Indies will name a new vice-captain for the ODI series in the next few days. The squad will travel from Barbados to St Vincent on Monday, where they will play the first ODI against Australia on March 16.

@royramesh Where have you been? Gone are the days when a keeper can be picked solely for keeping ability. What successful international team has a WK that cannot bat? Thomas may be tidy behind the stumps but does not show any promise in front of them with a bat. Until he does so, it will be Baugh or Ramdin. Only Sammy is allowed to be a spectator captain in the ODIs. Lol

RAMDHIN WAS NEVER THE BEST KEEPER THOUGH HE WAS AND IS JUST ADEQUATE. BAUGH IS A NEAT AND MUCH IMPROVED KEEPER AND SHOULD BE IN THE ODI OR T20 TEAM ON MERIT. THE LITTLE KEEPER- THOMAS IN THE 2011 WORLD CUP WAS THE OUTSTANDING KEEPER BEHIND THE STUMPS IN THE TOURNAMENT. HE SHOULD BE IN A W I TEAM PRONTO!

Agree, I would like to see both teams at full strength but as you know Oz is down Clarke, Cummins, Johnson & waiting on Pattinson to recover... Still I think with either a 3-1 or 2-2 bowling attack of McKay, Lee, Hilfy, Patto, Lyon, Doherty we have a tail that can also "sometimes" bat low & with Watson (aver@28.9 - econ@4.8 - SR@36), Christian (a26.7 - e4.9 - sr32), Huss (a30.2 - e5.2 - sr34) as allrounders I'm not sure who you would drop for another allrounder?... Seems like over-kill to have 8 bowlers in a team or would you drop one of the allrounders - and whom & why?... It all academic anyway as the team is already there & we've got what we've got - so let the games begin... lol...
Posted by Meety on (March 12, 2012, 7:45 GMT)@svengali47 - I agree, the mix is not right, although I think it really only needs to be a bowler who is a good batsmen, like Faulkner or Butterworth. I think M Marsh would of been perfect, S Smith I thought would of been ok over on WIndies pitches, however his bowling has dropped away this past 12 mths.

It will still be a tight series if the WI play their best cricket although if Watson can instill discipline and energise the Aussie team properly then they should win the series 4-1. If they play well that is..... and the selectors pick the right balance. They are still short one all-rounder in their line-up...

Just a day after Baugh scored a magnificent century against Guyana, he got opportunity to play for Windies again as replacement of injured Ramdin. He is very promising Cricketer and real live wire behind the stumps. Hope he makes full use of this opportunity this time against Aussies.
