Adam Voges unleashed the fastest century in domestic one-day history as Western Australia pulled off a dramatic three-run victory over New South Wales in an amazing scoring frenzy at North Sydney Oval.

Voges, 25, smashed seven sixes and six fours in the 62-ball innings - in only his second ING Cup match - as Western Australia collected the third-highest total in domestic limited-overs games. The Blues were given little hope of mounting a serious challenge due to their top-order woes this season, but the captain Brad Haddin's aggressive 120 off 110 balls put his side within sight of an unlikely win heading into the final overs.

Haddin was dismissed in the fourth last over and New South Wales needed 14 runs off the final over bowled by Steve Magoffin. Dominic Thornely scored five from the opening three balls before Aaron O'Brien was trapped in front and Jason Krejza then flicked behind square for four. But he managed only a single from the last ball.

Voges, who was only playing because Chris Rogers was injured, cashed in on his rare opportunity by hitting the sponsor's sign and collecting $50,000. His confidence lifted immediately after flicking the legspinner Stuart MacGill for six over square leg and the ball crashed into the sponsor's sign. He celebrated mid-pitch before thrashing the highly-rated attack to all corners.

"That is the first time we have had a look at him, I am not sure if we want to have a second look," the wicketkeeper Haddin said of Voges. Voges credited the opening stand of 151 by Marcus North and Scott Meuleman as laying the foundation for Western Australia's highest score in domestic limited-overs cricket.
