Australia won the toss and decided to bat against West Indies
For the first time since 2013, Australia have left out
Nathan Lyon from a Test when he has been available for selection while West Indies have dropped
Kraigg Brathwaite the match after he reached 100 Tests.
Pat Cummins had flagged the potential move by his team the day before and it was confirmed at the toss with
Scott Boland coming into the XI on a well-grassed surface for Sabina Park's first day-night Test.
Aside from the three Tests he was injured for in the 2023 Ashes, Lyon has been ever present in the side since the 2013 tour of England when he was initially overlooked in favour of Ashton Agar. He claimed six wickets in Grenada leaving him one behind Glenn McGrath's tally of 563 as the second-most for Australia in Tests.
The last time Australia fielded an all-pace attack was during the 2023 Ashes at Old Trafford when they left out Todd Murphy, fielding three frontline quicks alongside Cameron Green and Mitchell Marsh.
It is a significant Test to miss for Lyon given that close friend Mitchell Starc is making his
100th appearance, becoming just the second Australia pace bowler to reach that mark after Glenn McGrath. Starc, who is far and away the most successful bowler in pink-ball Tests, also needs five wickets to reach 400.
Meanwhile, West Indies have made three changes, including the significant one of dropping Brathwaite after three single-figure scores in the series and an average of 18.11 since the start of 2024.
Mikyle Louis comes in at the top of the order while
Kevlon Anderson, who averaged 71.62 in this season's West Indies Championship, makes his debut at No. 3 in place of Keacy Carty.
And, unlike Australia, the home side after brought in a spinner with Jomel Warrican replacing Anderson Phillip
The is just the second day-night Test played in the Caribbean after Sri Lanka played in Barbados in 2018.
