Toss Australia chose to bowl vs India
Alyssa Healy called it right at the toss and Australia opted to bowl in the second women's ODI against India in New Chandigarh. With the temperature 31 degrees celsius and the afternoon expected to get hotter, Australia wanted to "get out in the heat and acclimatise" ahead of the Women's World Cup starting later this month in the subcontinent.
India received a jolt before the game with key batter Jemimah Rodrigues being ruled out of the series with viral fever. Tejal Hasabnis, part of the standbys for the World Cup as well, was named her replacement in the squad. But in the XI, India opted to shore up their bowling by bringing in allrounder Arundhati Reddy and seamer Renuka Singh. Renuka was back after a long layoff spent recovering from a stress fracture.
While Rodrigues was a forced change, India rested Shree Charani, who was wicketless in her 8.1 overs on Sunday. Deepti Sharma was pencilled to bat at No. 5, the spot Rodrigues occupied.
Australia also made two changes of their own, partly in a bid to help their players get game time ahead of the World Cup. Georgia Voll came in for her first international match in India - she was part of UP Warriorz in WPL 2025 as a replacement player - and was slated to open the batting in place of Phoebe Litchfield, who is managing a low-grade quad strain after a fine 88 in the opening game.
Darcie Brown, who played two one-dayers against India A at home in August, came in for her first international since March with Kim Garth making way.
