Lunch Bangladesh 100 for 3 (Mominul 17*, Mushfiqur 3*, McBrine 3-34) vs Ireland
Andy McBrine's three wickets gave Ireland a fine start against Bangladesh in the Dhaka Test. The offspinner was the only wicket-taker for the visitors as the home side went to lunch at 100 for 3. The third wicket brought Mushfiqur Rahim to the crease, in his 100th Test for Bangladesh.
The morning started with the BCB giving Mushfiqur a short reception at the Shere Bangla National Stadium. His family attended the reception, where former captains Akram Khan, Habibul Bashar and Aminul Islam, also the current BCB president, presented him with mementos.
The felicitations gave way to a strong start from the Bangladesh openers. Mahmudul Hasan Joy kicked things off with a square cut boundary off Jordan Neill in the first over. Shadman Islam pulled his first two fours with disdain, before the pair struck four fours over the sixth and seventh overs.
Ireland stopped the leaking of runs after that, until Shadman struck Curtis Campher for his sixth four in the 13th over. But in the next over, McBrine struck for the visitors.
Shadman missed a delivery that was going on with McBrine's arm, as the ball struck him half-way up his front pad. Ireland were successful through the review, as Shadman fell for 35 off 44 balls.
Mahmudul became more defensive from this point, though eventually McBrine preyed on his mindset. After batting out 11.2 overs with Mominul Haque, Mahmudul mistimed an aerial shot, only to give substitute Barry McCarthy an easy catch at mid-off. Mahmudul made 34 off 86 balls with two fours.
Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto slammed McBrine for a huge six over long-on - the only boundary after Shadman's dismissal - but fell next ball to another delivery that slid into the left-hander. Just ten minutes before lunch, the man of the hour, Mushfiqur, walked to the crease to a standing ovation from the Shere Bangla National Stadium faithful.
