0.6 to BB McCullum, bad start for New Zealand and it's the key man McCullum, it pitched outside off and was full, McCullum shaped to leave and was clearly surprised by the inward movement, it thudded into the top of his front pad above the kneeroll right in front of middle stump as he offered no shot, Daryl Harper thought about it before raising the finger, the only thing that could have saved him was height. 3/1 12.1 to KS Williamson, this time Harper detects the edge! Short around off and he gets a thick edge defending off the back foot through to the keeper, they all go up and Harper seemed to be expecting Kane to walk but he eventually puts the finger up. 46/2 116.6 to TG Southee, he was hanging on the back foot, so when the half-volley on off came he had to reach for it and ends up scooping a dolly of a catch to cover. 322/8 120.3 to BJ Arnel, can the Phantom get his skipper to a Test hundred? Arnel tried hard but this was too good for him, pitched on off and nipped back into the pad on middle, that was going on to hit. Stick around folks, Martin is coming out! Gordon has got what he wanted. 338/9

32.5 to MJ Guptill, well well well, Guptill's patience finally runs out and Tanvir is to be credited for almost boring him out, it was outside off and short and he went for the cut but could only get an under-edge through to the keeper, another start goes unconverted for Guptill. 98/3 32.6 to JD Ryder, gone! two in two! Successive golden ducks for Ryder who will be on a king pair in the second innings, it was on off and moved away a touch, Ryder nibbled fatally at it through to the keeper, Pakistan have firmly wrested the initiative back here while John Wright will no doubt be tearing his hair out. 98/4 114.3 to RA Young, a vital breakthrough just before lunch! Tanvir gets a wicket despite looking fairly ordinary, it was short and wide outside off but maybe a touch close than Young would have liked, he couldn't free the arms that much and snicked it through to Adnan who grabs his 6th catch of the innings. 318/7

71.1 to LRPL Taylor, and he strikes first ball! It was full and wide outside off, he flashed hard at it but could only get a thick snick on it and Adnan dived to his right to take a good catch and remove the main threat. Good innings from Taylor ends with his team needing more. 180/6

63.6 to JEC Franklin, soft soft dismissal, short down leg and Franklin tried to work it away but got a thin edge through to Adnan who did well to hang on with his vision obscured, just as Pakistan seemed to be drooping in the field they pick up a wicket. 166/5 127.1 to DL Vettori, that's it, bowled out for 356, he comes down and heaves Rehman away to cow corner but doesn't quite get the distance, Misbah takes the catch to end Vettori's excellent knock. 356/10

54.4 to Azhar Ali, a good short ball outside off and he tried to sway out of the way but it jagged back in towards him and he couldn't get the bat out of the way, hits the bottom of the bat and goes to slip at a comfortable angle, Azhar's solid innings ends and New Zealand have an early breakthrough. 144/3 120.2 to Abdur Rehman, Martin delivers an even better follow-up and this time Rehman can't survive. Again sharp on middle and rears up at him, he tries to evade and it strikes high on the bat and lobs up into the slips for another simple catch. 333/7 126.3 to Misbah-ul-Haq, Misbah is lbw for 99! It was outside off coming in, he walked across and tried to flick it off middle but he missed, it struck him on the pad in line and Harper deliberated long and hard before raising the finger. Height is the only possibie negating factor there. 360/8 128.2 to Umar Gul, full outside off, goes for the drive and slices it straight to gully, they went upstairs to check whether it was a no-ball and it was not by the slimmest of margins. 363/9
28 | 7 | 102 | 2 | 3.64 | 127 | 18 | 0 | 0 | 0 | |
1.5 to Mohammad Hafeez, out! well he's got to go, whether he hit it is another question, it was outside off and he went for the drive, there was a noise as it went through to the keeper and Tucker put his finger up straight away, Could have been bat hitting pad, bat hitting ball or even an lbw shout. We need replays to confirm. 2/1 132.6 to Tanvir Ahmed, Southee nabs the final wicket, Vettori will have to wait till Pakistan's second innings for any chance of a 100 and a 5-wicket innings haul in the same match. It was shortish just outside off, flashed hard at it and got a thick edge which flew to Taylor at head-height at some pace. 376/10

49.5 to Taufeeq Umar, oh dear! Taufeeq heads to the shed just before stumps, it was outside off and full and he just stabbed at it with an open face to Guptill who was alert to snap it up at second slip. 134/2 105.6 to Younis Khan, well! right on the stroke of tea a wicket falls! it was a similar ball and it went down leg, struck on the pad after it passed the bat and popped up to Ryder at short leg. That was a big mistake from the umpire. Both have struggled in this match and everytime this happens the UDRS question is bound to pop up. 286/4 107.5 to Asad Shafiq, New Zealand clawing their way back and Shafiq has to go for a duck. A lovely ball on middle and spun towards off to take the outside edge of the forward defence and went low to slip where Taylor took a smart catch. 294/5 115.5 to Adnan Akmal, this was fullish on off but not full enough to play a slog sweep against the turn, he skied it in the air over his head to fine leg who took an easy catch. 324/6

86.1 to LRPL Taylor, well well this Test continues to swing back and forth. This one nips back in from outside off and caught Taylor on the crease on middle and leg. Height is not an issue, the only question is whether it was missing leg but Tucker thought it was hitting and sent Taylor on his way. 268/7 88.1 to DL Vettori, Vettori's strength fails him here. Gul fired in another full one on middle and he walked across his stumps and tried to flick fine, he ends up flicking it into his leg stump. 275/8 88.2 to BJ Arnel, Arnel goes for a golden duck! plumb lbw, hits him on off after nipping back in and that is careering into middle and Tucker quickly puts the finger up. Gul on a hat-trick and with Chris Martin to face you can't really ask for a better opportunity. 275/9 90.5 to CS Martin, apologies as I put the kiss of death on him, short ball on off and he backed away but couldn't get the bat out of the way, a thin edge through to Adnan as Gul cleans out the tail to collect four wickets. 293/10
10 | 0 | 36 | 1 | 3.60 | 46 | 5 | 0 | 0 | 3 | |
52.4 to KS Williamson, this time he goes for a similar ball outside off, it was full and he went across on the back foot and tried to force through the off side, got a thick edge to the right of Adnan and this time he held on after diving. 166/2
39 | 6 | 119 | 3 | 3.05 | 176 | 11 | 4 | 0 | 0 | |
35.3 to BB McCullum, McCullum falls trying to up the pace, it was tossed up a bit more on off and he backed away and came down a touch to give himself room, tried to repeat his earlier six off Rehman but never got it out of the middle and skied it down to long-off who was a tad slow to come in and eventually had to slide low but took it fairly comfortably. 120/1 53.3 to MJ Guptill, Rehman gets the reward for his tight lines, it pitched outside off and slid on fast to beat the defensive prod and struck him on the front pad in line, that was crashing into the stumps and Guptill has to go as Pakistan put a brake on New Zealand's ambitions. 166/3 85.3 to RA Young, well they have dropped a few today, but this was a blinder from Azhar Ali. Goes back and tries to work to leg, gets a leading edge that is flying towards the edge of the pitch. Azhar at silly mid-off dives and plucks it one-handed inches off the ground. 268/6

61.1 to JD Ryder, oh my! First ball after the rain delay and Ryder shoulders arms to a harmless ball on off stump which straightens on and hits the stumps. All are bemused while Ryder walks off in disbelief. 192/4 65.6 to JEC Franklin, and that's that. Fired into middle and leg and Franklin went back but got a thick outside edge which was gobbled up by Younis at slip. Pakistan have evened things up here. 208/5 |

10.1 to Azhar Ali, Pakistan lose their second. It was full on off and tailing into middle and leg, hits him on the pad as he misses the flick and Tucker deliberates before raising the finger, height and whether it was hitting are the key variables to consider there. 35/2 12.6 to Mohammad Hafeez, another one goes and Pakistan lose their set batsman. Full outside off and he went hard at it, got a thick edge straight to Taylor at first slip. His dismissal also signals the arrival of drinks. 42/3

1.1 to Taufeeq Umar, and he strikes with his first ball! It was an excellent ball which pitched around middle and straightened past the defensive stroke to hit him on the back pad, Harper raises the finger and that was definitely out, Taufeeq departs for a golden duck and the home side are on top early. 4/1 57.4 to Younis Khan, oh my and Younis is again out in the last over before tea for the second time in the match! It was full outside off and he just poked at it away from the body through to Young behind the stumps, Younis has given New Zealand a glimmer of hope. 160/4

83.2 to Asad Shafiq, is there a very very late twist in the tale? A slider on middle and off and thuds into the pad at the same time as bat hits pad, Harper raises the finger and Shafiq has to go. This has certainly livened the game up. 215/5
