Tasmania 201 for 4 (Silk 50*, Doran 33, Perry 2-32) trail Victoria 428 for 9 dec (Harris 143, Handscomb 129, Bell 3-63) by 227 runs
A fighting unbeaten half-century from Tasmania captain Jordan Silk has kept the visitors in the contest after Victoria threatened to take a massive first-innings lead on the back of a strong all-round day from Mitchell Perry at the Junction Oval.
Silk and Beau Webster guided their side to stumps at 201 for 4 after Perry's unbeaten 58 and two wickets had earlier put Victoria well on top. Following the opening-day centuries from Marcus Harris and Peter Handscomb, Perry added a combined 116 with Fergus O'Neill and Todd Murphy for the eighth and ninth wickets, respectively, on the second morning, before Victoria declared at 428 for 9.

Schutt takes 3 for 3 as Australia push closer to a semi-final spot

New Zealand were bowled out for 88 in a chase of 149, leaving their progress in doubt

Australia Women 148 for 8 (Mooney 40, Kerr 4-26) beat New Zealand Women 88 all out (Kerr 29, Schutt 3-3, Sutherland 3-21) by 60 runs
Australia put one foot in the semi-finals with a dominant 60-run victory over neighbours New Zealand in Sharjah, and in the process recorded their 13th straight win in T20I World Cups. The result means Australia have two wins from two with a healthy net run-rate of 2.524 - they are also the only unbeaten side in the group. For New Zealand, the margin of defeat has had a hefty impact on their net run-rate, now going below Pakistan's as they fell to third place.
The win was a result of a supreme all-round effort from Australia, and a solid execution of plans. Their top order of Alyssa Healy, Beth Mooney and Ellyse Perry contributed heavily, and while Amelia Kerr - who ended with excellent figures of 4 for 26 - did her best to reel New Zealand back into the game, Australia's total of 148 for 8 on a sluggish surface always felt like too tall a chase.

Victoria 330 for 7 (Harris 143, Handscomb 129, Bell 3-44) vs Tasmania
Victoria duo Marcus Harris and Peter Handscomb have sent very timely reminders of their talents to Australia's selectors with twin centuries for Victoria against Tasmania at the Junction Oval on the opening day of the Sheffield Shield season.
With Cameron Green's availability for the Test series against India still unknown due to a back injury and Steven Smith's Test batting position also unclear, Harris put forth an early case to be reinstated as Australia's Test opener by making 143, his 29th first-class century. Meanwhile, Handscomb is less likely to be considered for the upcoming Test series, but did his chances of earning a spot on the January-February Test tour of Sri Lanka no harm with 129, his 26th first-class hundred and his fifth in 2024.

England 96 for 1 (Crawley 64*, Root 32*) trail Pakistan 556 (Masood 151, Salman 104*, Shafique 102, Shakeel 82, Leach 3-160) by 460 runs
Salman Agha became Pakistan's third centurion to cement their dominant position in Multan, before a chaotic interlude in which England lost Ben Duckett to injury and their captain, Ollie Pope, for a duck left the touring side scrabbling for a foothold in the first match of the series.
Duckett suffered a painful-looking blow to his left thumb taking the catch to dismiss Pakistan's last man Abrar Ahmed - who had already been given two lives - meaning that when England began their innings midway through the evening session, it was with Pope walking out alongside Zak Crawley. Pope only lasted two balls, Aamer Jamal plucking a one-handed screamer at midwicket to further galvanise Pakistan and bring Joe Root, England's designated No. 4, to the middle in the second over.
