Cheam Cricket Club was opened in 1864 and has hosted many benefit matches for Surrey players. In 1968 a game for John Edrich against an International Cavaliers XI drew a crowd of 8000 and was televised by the BBC (the first to be shown in colour). The venue continues to host second XI matches.
