Dhoni, the limited-overs captain
MS Dhoni's biggest moments as India's limited-overs captain
MS Dhoni stepped down as India's limited-overs captain on January 4, 2017. He was in charge of the team for 199 ODIs, of which India won 110, and 72 T20Is, of which India won 41. Here are some of his biggest moments as India's limited-overs captain. •Getty Images and Cricket Australia
2008 CB Series, Australia: Following a tempestuous Test series - that Monkeygate saga - Dhoni's India clinch their first - and so far only - ODI series victory in Australia. A tri-series also featuring Sri Lanka, India make the best-of-three final against the hosts and seal victory with a match to spare. Dhoni terms the victory "greater than the World T20."•Getty Images
2013 Champions Trophy, England: The English weather effectively converts an ODI into a T20. India put up only 129. "God is not coming to save us," Dhoni tells his team in the huddle, before they go out to defend their low total. "If you want to win this trophy, we will have to fight it out." India keep England to 124. Dhoni becomes the first captain to claim all three ICC trophies: World Cup, World T20, Champions Trophy.•Getty Images
2016 World T20, India: One of the craziest finishes to a game of cricket you could imagine. After hitting consecutive fours, Bangladesh need two to win off three balls to knock India out of the tournament. They have three wickets in hand, and the experienced Mushfiqur and Mahmadullah batting. Cue in several mid-pitch conferences from the hosts. Cue in three wickets in three balls, the last of which comes with Dhoni coolly - and smartly - completing a run-out. India win by one run.•AFP
2007 World T20, South Africa: Dhoni, 26, iconic long hair still intact, takes charge of India's limited-overs side. India go into the tournament having played only one T20I till then. After memorable wins over England, South Africa and Australia, it comes down to defending 12 off the final over of the tournament, against Pakistan. Dhoni, with a typically curious but inspired decision, bowls medium pacer Joginder Sharma, who wins it by five runs.•Getty Images
2010 Asia Cup, Sri Lanka: India win another multi-team tournament under Dhoni. Again, they meet the hosts in the final. Dhoni chips in with four catches and a stumping as India thump Sri Lanka by 81 runs.•AFP
2016 Australia v India T20s: When India are down 4-0 in the five-match ODI series in Australia, few would have expected the turnaround that followed in the T20s. Dhoni's team sweeps the T20s 3-0, an especially vital win for them given it is a World T20 year. •Getty Images
2016 India v New Zealand: We did not know it at the time - he probably didn't either - but Dhoni finished his captaincy career on a high. The victory came at home, against New Zealand. The five-match series was level at 2-2 going into the last game. India sealed it 3-2 by bowling the visitors out for 79. •Associated Press
2011 World Cup, India: The big one. Twenty-eight years after Kapil Dev's men claimed the biggest prize in cricket, MS Dhoni's men followed suit. With India chasing 275 in the final, the captain promoted himself to No. 5, above an in-form Yuvraj Singh, scoring 91 and taking India home with that six. •Getty Images
2016 Asia Cup, Bangladesh: They keep their shortest-format form going leading up to the World T20 by winning the Asia Cup - it is the first time the tournament features T20s instead of ODIs. India are set 121 in 15 overs by Bangladesh in the final, and Dhoni finishes it off with 20 not out off 7. •AFP
