Indian umpire AV Jayaprakash has retired from all forms of the game after standing in the IPL match between the Bangalore Royal Challengers and the Mumbai Indians in Bangalore on Wednesday.
Jayaprakash, 58, said he had come to a point where he was not enjoying umpiring matches and was mentally tired. He took up umpiring after retiring from first-class cricket in 1985 and officiated 13 Tests and 38 ODIs between 1997 and 2006. His second Test was the historic one between India and Pakistan in Delhi where Anil Kumble picked up all 10 Pakistan wickets. Jayaprakash was at the bowler's end for the proceedings.
Though the ICC's Elite Panel of umpires was introduced during his career, in 2002, Jayaprakash was never selected for it and India haven't had an umpire in the panel since S Venkataraghavan retired in 2004.
