George Rhodes became the third generation of the Rhodes family to play first-team cricket for a first-class county when, at 22, he was included in Worcestershire's side for a Royal London One-Day Cup match with Yorkshire at Headingley. Rhodes followed his grandfather Billy, who played for Nottinghamshire, and father Steve, Worcestershire's director of cricket at New Road who had a long career with Yorkshire and Worcestershire.

An average of 30-plus in six Championship matches represented a promising start and his slow-medium proved a dangerous weapon in T20 cricket as his 4 for 13 against Birmingham Bears could testify. He recorded a maiden hundred during a Royal London game against Yorkshire in 2019, but opted to move on at the end of the season, signing a three-year contract with Leicestershire.
