A four-day dispute between Sri Lanka Cricket and its players ends with the issuing of a four-tiered contract system. The decision is reached after the board freezes the contracts of 23 players, including Test captain Angelo Mathews and senior players Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara, one week before the first Test against Bangladesh. The main cause for the dispute is the SLC's refusal to pay the players their customary 25% of its earnings from ICC events. The players agree to sign away that payment for this year with the hope that it will be reintroduced in future contracts.

In June, Najam Sethi, a senior journalist, is appointed the new PCB interim chairman, taking over from Ashraf.

After Bangladesh lose the one-day series 2-1 in Zimbabwe, Mushfiqur Rahim announces his resignation as national captain upon the conclusion of the tour. Four days later he says he regrets his hasty decision. In July the board reappoints him as captain and later that year his tenure is extended up to the 2015 World Cup in Australia.
