stylish pull to get New Zealand 1-0 up. Short of a length at off and middle, watches that on nicely as he pivots and makes sweet connection on the pull behind square
New Zealand vs Bangladesh, 1st ODI at Dunedin, NZ v BDESH, Mar 20 2021 - Match Result
New Zealand won by 8 wickets (with 172 balls remaining)
4:24pm And that is all from our ball-by-ball coverage. See you at the next game!
Tom Latham: It was a game full of debutants and milestones, nice to get the win today. In ODIs we haven't played in a while, it was about winning the toss and setting the tone. As a bowling unit, it was clinical. When you win it doesn't really matter how you win, for us to chase 132 in 20 overs was awesome. [For Guptill] to break the back of the chase was awesome. Another outstanding crowd here, hopefully we can get the same in Christchurch.
Tamim Iqbal: I thought there were too many soft dismissals. No doubt they bowled really well, but we have ourselves to blame. We take pride in our batting and that was nowhere near enough. We had a couple of days here, I cannot complain about our preparation. It's not new to us, we know what to expect. And we hope we put up a better performance. [Mahedi] especially the first shot was nice, I would have loved for him to continue. He bowled well today, he showed character.
Trent Boult is the Player of the Match.
4:16pm A comfortable outing for the home team. Their start to the chase was as rollicking as Bangladesh's was laboured earlier today. Guptill going berserk for a 19-ball 38, and Nicholls took them through with a typically calm 49. All set up by a brilliant bowling effort that has given Bangladesh a lot to think about in terms of their approach in these conditions.
short of a length and just outside off, waits on it and opens the face for the late cut. Third man is very wide and can't stop this to his left, after a good tumbling effort
full and curving away outside off, a sumptuous square drive to find sweeper
length outside off, punched on the up to sweeper cover
length and wobbly outside off, looks to drive on the rise and gets a thick edge to third man
length outside off, shuffles and defends
short of a length outside off, punched to sweeper's left
short of a length outside off, steered to third man
chipped to deep square.Looks to walk down at this length ball and loft it over the infield. Is forced to reach out and closes the face as a result. Floats harmlessly out to Mahmudullah and he takes it. Scratchy from Conway today, not one of his better days
short of a length at leg stump, pushed into the leg side off the back foot
crunched! Full and wide outside off, reaches out for it and drills it on the up to extra cover's left
short of a length across the corridor, hangs the bat out and is beaten again
length and across the corridor, has a poke and is beaten
length on off stump, soft-handed push to mid-off to steal a run
