squeezed back past the bowler to mid-off
Scorchers vs Stars, 2nd Semi-Final at Melbourne, Jan 22 2016 - Ball by Ball Commentary
Stars won by 7 wickets (with 11 balls remaining)
Time to rest those fingers. Hope you enjoyed the coverage tonight. Join us for the grand finale on Sunday. Until then, it's goodbye from the commentary desk. Cheers!
Kevin Pietersen is the Man of the Match for his 36-ball 62. It's always nice to perform in big games. Credit to the bowlers for setting it up. I think about the consequences, not the result. So I wouldn't have really been impacted even if I was out first ball.I wanted to get runs tonight, and was up for it. Someone came up with a few words, I was simply giving it back. Super coach Fleming has done it again, hasn't he? Was brought in to do a job and he's done it. I love Melbourne. The crowds that we've got here is amazing. It's my home in Australia, I'd love to see 80,000 fans on Sunday.
Wonder if David Willey's sledge to KP was the costliest this season. That seemed to fire up KP, who didn't look back from there on. He signed a two-year extension with Melbourne Stars prior to this game. On the big night, he ensured that move was worth its weight in gold.
Another final for Stephen Fleming. Amazing isn't it? All it needs for a franchise to qualify for the final is to have him as coach
It's going to be difficult for the Hussey household on Sunday. Not sure who they will cheer for. David up against Michael
Melbourne Stars have erased memories of their past, where they kept stuttering at the semifinal stage. Tonight, they've been clinical and have set up a final date with Sydney Thunder on Sunday. Elation on one side, dejection on the other. Perth Scorchers came into the game, looking to make it a hat-trick of titles, but they bow out of the semifinals following a comprehensive defeat. The man who made the difference tonight - Kevin Pietersen. Took the pressure off the Stars after they lost an early wicket. He was authoritative and the swagger that he's known for didn't leave him at any stage.
swings over midwicket, gets a thick edge that races into the vacant third man boundary. Scores tied
hit hard down to long on
spears in a superb yorker, jams his bat down in time to keep that out
hit down the ground but didn't get hold of it, Agar running in from long-off dives full length forward but the ball was dying on him, full marks for the effort
pulled towards deep midwicket
slower one on off, bunted down to long on
KP bowled for 62 looking to play reverse paddle - but @StarsBBL still on course for #BBL05 final. Watch on SS1. pic.twitter.com/oFmYTYWapx

squeezed behind point, takes on the throw of Willey at third man, manages to get back in time
what has he done here? He has self-destructed, but the job has been nearly done. Yorker-length delivery on off, changed his grip to play the reverse pull even before the ball was delivered, was cramped for room and couldn't get underneath it as the off stump is pegged back
backs away and hammers it back past the bowler, long-off and long-on converge
well, this one's been hit 20 rows back. Home run stuff! Picks the length early and clubs that one way in front of square over wide long-on. KP? Spent force? Well, he's sent out a message with this knock. What a knock when it mattered the most
squeezed behind point, how quickly did he unfurl those wrists to open the face? Amazing! So much power even if it doesn't fly off the middle. Not much the bowler can do, to be fair, it wasn't all that bad a delivery
makes room to hit over cover, gets it off the toe end, rolls to the cover fielder. Well bowled by Paris
excellent stop at cover by Voges
gets a leading edge, squeezed behind point for a half-century, soaks in the applause of the crowd. What a knock
drags it short, he backs away and pulls it towards deep square leg
turns it towards short midwicket, as if to prove he can pinch the quick singles too
swept across the line, this time it's races away towards Willey who is right on the money
swept across the line to deep square leg, Willey picked it late and they're easily back for the second
don't mess with KP. You don't want to really rile him up, do you? This one's floated full on middle and off, KP backs away, frees his arms and lofts him nice and clean over long-off. Enough elevation, excellent use of the bottom hand
