Guthrie ends it with a superb looking straight drive past the bowler. Maxwell in pursuit even though it won't make a difference but the ball wins the race
Stars vs Heat, 23rd Match at Brisbane, BBL, Dec 27 2021 - Ball by Ball Commentary
11.25pm: That brings us to the end of this double-header BBL day. On behalf of PDP, Srivathsa, Binoy George and Thilak, this is Saurabh Somani signing off.
Joe Clarke is the Player of the Match: (on his hamstring) I was running with Hilton Cartwright, he's one of the quickest blokes! Hopefully will be fine for next game. Hilton made it a lot easier for me, hitting the ball from the start. To get the score from where we were, we were very happy. The power surge is such a talked about subject in the change room, we felt like we gained some momentum and wanted to take it, it came in our favour. (On Dre Russ leaving) He's always going to be a big miss in any team around the world. Was a pleasure to play with him.
11.20pm: A comfortable win by the Stars, much more comfortable than the 20-run margin suggests. Heat had their moments in the chase but they needed to keep the big hits coming, which is very difficult to pull off. Joe Clarke and Hilton Cartwright were simply magnificent for Stars. Nothing much on either side of their partnership, or by any other batter for that matter. But what they did was enough to give Stars a winning total. Heat had to come out swinging, and to their credit they did. But when you're chasing 200-plus you need lots of things to go right and some luck. That didn't happen.
reverse sweep, but straight to cover
bit of a limp drive to that and the inside edge goes to square leg
and the bouncer now, homing in on the helmet, looks to back away and upper cut it but can't connect
back of a length in the channel, looks to cut, bat nowhere near ball
Guthrie gets some of his own back! Full outside off, no feet movement and he swings through the line and over the bowler's head
backing away and Dre tries to keep it out of his reach and go wide outside off. Too wide as it turns out
coming forward, ball's dug in short outside off, he mis-times his pull to midwicket in the circle
great catch by Maxwell at long-on. Fuller outside off, connects well with the straight slog-sweep. Looks like the ball will clear Maxwell but he times his jump perfectly and lands inside the rope, has the poise and balance to not take a step over.
makes room to this length ball on the stumps and flat-bats it over the bowler's head and into the straight boundary
fuller on the stumps, lumped to deep midwicket along the ground
sliding down legside, he's falling over as he tries to flick, great take from Nevill who thinks there's an edge, but there wasn't.
was looking to heave this over cow corner but can't time it and the ball trickles to long-on
fuller outside off, comes on the front foot and laces a cover drive that threads the field and finds the boundary
bouncer outside off, took his eyes off the ball and swung in hope, no connection
excellent catch running forward by long-off and diving in front. Heazlett had a big swipe at one well outside off, couldn't fetch it properly, and the ball ends up swirling just beyond mid-off. Webster at long-off sprints in and then has to put in a dive, to hold on to it.
tried to reverse-scoop a full ball outside off, but can't connect
fuller and very wide outside off, toe-ends the drive to long-off. Because it's not hit well, they can hustle the second
nails it this time. Moved way across his stumps and picked it up from outside off to sweep it to the square leg boundary
was going across to try and scoop it, ends up not connecting well so the ball flies over short third man - instead of short fine leg as he intended
