Essex won by an innings and 15 runs

4.02pm Essex were right up against it after losing the first day of this match to rain, but it's been a stunning win in little more than two days of actual play. Dan Lawrence's extraordinary 152 put huge runs on the board in the first innings, Simon Harmer's career-best 9 for 80 enabled the follow-on, and despite a valiant bout of resistance from Brooke Guest in particular, they were unpicked wicket by wicket in a typically wholehearted team performance.

But the champions are back up and running, an innings defeat last week, an innings win this week.

round the wicket, very full and into the legs, an ambitious high-elbowed flog through the line from Stanlake, but he's merely plopped that into the hands of Westley at long-on! He flips his bat in disgust as he traipses off... Essex are one wicket away from a vital victory in an otherwise soggy round!
