drives down the ground to finish the innings
Victoria vs NSW, at Sydney, Feb 20 2008 - Ball by Ball Commentary
Andrew writes in again "Fair call Jarod, Im just hopeful the selectors take note of the best domestic one day innings in the last 20 years albeit against a second xi attack."
Jared comments again "The problem with Hussey is that the Australian batting lineup is full. None of the top 7 can be dropped and Haddin will replace Gilchrist so Dave might have to wait until Hayden retires."
Interesting debate, but with the way the Aussies are batting Hussey must still be a good chance...
Russell corrects me "Rob averages 40 plus actually!!!"
Yosi adds to the Quiney supporters "Quiney is having an outstanding season. Almost won the ford ranger. Has been outstanding. Maybe make an Australia A Team for sure. And maybe 2 seasons away for the baggy green if he keeps it up."
Michelle asks the question "Is Haddin the next best keeper to come in for Australia - in all forms of the game this season other keepers have been more dominant then him behind the stumps so is it just his batting that gives him the edge?"
Jared responds to Andrew again "Andrew that's like saying Gilchrist is not West Australian. He isn't by birth but for cricketing purposes he is."
Davis Gudwick cheekily adds "If it was up to me Aron Finch and Alan Wise would be playing for Australia and Dean Jones would be coaching. And make Paul Reifell the ump. Hey why isnt he on the Elite cricketing panel - must be another anti vctorian conspir
Andrew Sargood again says "Gilchrist will be remembered as one of NSW's greatest cricketers."
Ben argues the point with me "The way Australia are batting? So Hodge (116)is going to replace Ponting? ..."
Fair enough Ben, what I meant was the Aussies are having a slight form slump. It's true it will be difficult to replace anyone in the top 7, but Hussey must be in the rotation.
Matthew asks the question "who do you think will win on Saturday?" Well, after today's performance you'd have to say Victoria will go in as favourites. A lot will come down to whether or not Hodge and Hussey can fire again.
Jared comments "In response to Michelle, Haddin is a very good batsman, probably top 10 in Australia. His keeping isn't any worse than anyone else in Australia."
He continues "It's not as though he is a Geraint Jones like keeper..."
So a good day of cricket, Hussey is quite rightly named man of the match for his outstanding 113 off just 63. NSW were never really in the hunt, but did well to save the bonus point.
I must apologise, it was Tim who said "Gilchrist will be remembered as one of NSW's greatest cricketers", not Andrew Sargood
Russell continues to put a case forward for Quiney..."who was the last bat to average 50 in there first full season of domestic oneday cricket? is rob the first?"
Andrew responds to Tim, "Tim must have rocks in his head, Gilchrist will be rememberred as one the NSW selectors let go to prolong the careers of retiring test cricketers."
He continues "Just like Hussey will always be known as a guy who couldnt get a game in front of Ryan Campbell. Go figure!"
Thanks for joining me, Andrew Fuss, for coverage of today's game. Be sure to log on to cricinfo again on Saturday for the final of the Ford Ranger Cup between Tasmania and Victoria at Bellerive Oval.
smashed it over cover
full toss on leg, smashed over mid wicket
that brings up his 50, well played young man
flicked through mid wicket
Sorry that was Russel Blackwell, not Sargood
But Andrew Sargood writes "Hussey is from WA you vics would claim anyone.I guess Simon O'Donnell is a vic aswell???"
cut through the off side
Russel Sargood adds "after the Vics win all 3 competitions this years the aussie selectors might give credit where its due and give Hussey a go, Hodge must be still in the mix, as for Quiney-(not in a million years"
driven down to long off
driven through cover
driven through cover
flicked uppishly through mid wicket
flicked to the leg side
driven down the ground, Quiney basically tackles Hauritz as he dives to save it
And Jarrod Lange may have a point, but Hussey's performance today will have to raise the eye brows of a couple of selectors...his runs must do the talking
glances to third man
uses his feet and smashes it straight back over the bowler's head, hits the site screen on the full
driven straight back to the bowler
pushed to gully
well, he pulls out the reverse sweep, gets into position early and smashes it through point, or reverse square leg as it will now be known
uses his feet and smashes over mid wicket
Well Russell asks an interesting question about Quiney playing for Australia...maybe a bit of a way to go but he is only 25 and averages 38 in One Day cricket...
driven back to the bowler
driven down to long off
