THROUGH HIM! That's how it's done, says Jasprit Bumrah. From one exponent of great death bowling to the other! That went through Mustafizur before his bat could even contemplate its descent down to meet with the ball. Goes through between the bottom the bat and his toe, and goes on to hit the base of off-stump.
6.55pm: That's that then. Now there are only three teams fighting for the two places, with India's qualification. We could get a clearer picture tomorrow when England host New Zealand at Chester-le-Street. A win there puts England into the top four, and then Pakistan might need a whopping margin of victory against Bangladesh on Friday to sneak past the Kiwis. If New Zealand can win, then Pakistan will have a ripe chance of spoiling the hosts' party in that game on Friday at Lord's. India head to Leeds, where they face Sri Lanka to round off the group stages on Saturday. For the moment, this is Debayan Sen saying goodbye on behalf of Chandan Duorah and Peter Della Penna. Lots of analyses and reactions from this Edgbaston up on our site. See you around!
Virat Kohli, who also gives Mortaza a few words of comfort as the two cross: "Bangladesh have played some really good cricket in this tournament. Even till the last ball was bowled, they batted with intended. It's good to have 'Q' (qualified) on the points table now. This will keep us in a good frame of mind going into the semi-finals. (Five bowlers) Look, we experienced that Hardik when put under pressure has come back really well. He's really looking forward to do stuff for the team. He has a gut feel of what the batsman is looking to do. I know five bowlers was a gamble, but it was keeping in mind the ground dimensions. We wanted to play the perfect combination for the small boundary. (On Rohit) I have been watching it for years now. He's the best One-day player around and we are so delighted to see him. When he plays like that, everybody is happy to see him strike this so well. (On Bumrah) His overs were always going to be crucial, so that's why we stopped him after four initially. He's a world-class bowler and he just knows what he's up against. We can look to capitalise on situations where we are in a position to score those extra 30 runs. Very happy with the way the team has played so far. Thank you - the fans have been magnificent."
Mashrafe Mortaza: "This was a good effort, but we had to win this match. (On partnerships) If one of them could have been 80-90, it could have been a different match, but 47-50 is asking a bit much. We could have had a bit more luck, but Shakib Al Hasan has been in superb form, and Mushfiq has batted beautifully. Rohit's catch was obviously disappointing, but those things happen in the field. (On Pakistan game) We have played our best, and fans have been fantastic. Hopefully we will end on a good note."
Rahul: "So when Bumrah comes out to bowl in next match he will be on hattrick?" ---No, I wasn't aware that this only applies to separate innings
Anthony Collard: "Number of times Indian bowler has got at least 4 wickets in last 4 games = 4 Number of times Indian batsmen have gotten more than 320 in last 4 games = 0 Number of times Indian batsmen got Man of the Match = 3 It's truly a batsmen's game..." --- For me, the player of the game for India was Hardik Pandya. They went in with just five bowlers today, and he responded with three crucial wickets for them. Those change-ups really hurt Bangladesh, especially when he got rid of Shakib, who would have wanted to shepherd this chase home for them
"In last world cup it was India, in last two asia cup finals it was India, in nidahas trophy it was India, in champions trophy it was India and today again it was India. Why does it always happen with us, why does India do this to us? They could have let their neighbor win! Common its called, "Love thy neighbor", Jesus said it", says Shahed. Shahed, I can tell you Bangladesh is winning a lot of respect from Indian fans. I won't name a colleague who was whooping with joy at the last two wickets. Must have been quite relieved that India were able to close this game out. I am sure that must be the case with many Indian fans today!
WATCH on Hotstar (India only): How the Bangladesh wickets fell
Player of the match is Rohit Sharma: "I had a great feeling right at the start. It's a great pitch to bat on. The first game against South Africa, I had to take my time. Against England as well, the pitch was two-paced, and they used the conditions really well. There was no question of scoreboard batting first, so that's what I had to do. I was lucky (early on)...fortune favours the brave. I never think about the shorter boundaries when I bat, because my game is all about piercing the field. Once you are set, the idea is to put pressure on the bowlers. (Four hundreds in one World Cup) Oh I thought I just got a 100 today. My mantra is whatever has happened in the past is in the past. Those in form have to bat long and get the team to a big score. I need to focus on the next game now."
6.34pm I know the format is different, but just like in 2015, India confirm their place in the semi-finals and they do that at the expense of Bangladesh. Take no credit away from Bangladesh, though. They made sure India realised that they were in a scrap right through this chase. India will have some questions to ask of their middle order, which just couldn't back up an explosive start from their openers and convert that into the big score they were looking set to score, but they have come out and bowled with intelligence and discipline. Shakib Al Hasan was brilliant, and Saifuddin eventually runs out of partners with 51
The Fizz. Usually better at finishing with the ball...
YORKED HIM! Full, fast, and gives no chance to Rubel Hossain. He backs away yet again, but this time the angle of the ball gives him no chance to jam the bat down in time. Bangladesh are running out of wickets, but what an absolutely fantastic rearguard action it has been since Shakib fell!
fullish ball, at the pads, and he gets some bat to it and runs it along to square leg
Around the wicket
WHAT A SHOT TO BRING UP FIFTY! It's a full ball, on the stumps, and he backs away and smacks this straight back down the ground. Long on gets around and dives to his right, but Virat Kohli can only just miss the ball there
Mrinmoy Datta: "I am hoping that after 20 minutes we are not in a position to blame Dhoni again for the first three balls of the 50th over during India's batting." --- Hahaha, touche
backs away and gets a bit of bat to a length ball angling into him, goes towards midwicket
full, and he whips this off middle stump towards midwicket
Irtaza: "I love how all of you cricinfo commentators are defending the Dhoni-Jadhav partnership and kohlis defense of them" --- Not a question of defending them. Putting every possible angle before you. You guys will make the judgement. We probably shouldn't
Arjun: "I am an Indian rooting for an Bangladesh win.. At least then all the whining about selection, skills and captaincy(or the lack of it) will be justified. I have no idea why the team has been taking so much flak after being unbeaten until Sunday. Maybe the fans want some drama. "Are you entertained?""
full again, and he gets an inner edge in trying to thrash it down towards long on. Limps down the leg side, for Dhoni to take
full ball, just outside off, and he tries to slap this away after backing away to the leg side, but cannot make contact
Jasprit Bumrah is on song at the moment - when isn't he? Good time to revisit Nagraj Gollapudi's tale about Bumrah's non-hat-trick
full ball, and he drives this down towards long on
short, follows him as he backs away, and he can still connect and get it down to long leg. Terrific shot!
short, and Saifuddin lets this pass. Too short, and is called a wide
full toss, and he puts in a lot of effort to whack this away. Eventually off the toe-end and back past Saifuddin at the non-striker's end, and goes towards long on
Naveen Kumar S.: "Come on, please stop the talk of net run rate. It wasn't 200 they were reducing the impact of. It was 60, they got it down to 30. Zero intent is the worst a fan could think of. Also, everyone knows the reason why Karthik played ahead of Jadhav today. I am surprised that even Kohli is defending it, considering his motto when he started captaincy was 'to win matches even in tests and not draws.' " --- Yes, it won't be the last we'll hear of this, for sure
full, just outside off, and Rubel looks to go down the ground, but misses out
yorker, and he jams his bat down just in time to keep this 143kph ball away from his stumps. Runs it off the inner part of the bat down to fine leg
Anuj: "Still concerned about Shami's 2 overs"
full, angles across Saifuddin, who flicks this towards midwicket, and gets an easy single
backs away from a short ball, and sends it flying towards point. Rishabh Pant decides not to attack the ball
DRILLED BACK DOWN THE GROUND! I think Rubel will get the broadcasters to give him this clip for his archives. Gets down on one knee and slaps a full ball outside off back past Bumrah
Sachin: "Everybody is talking about Dhoni-Jadhav partnership but ignoring how Rohit and Virat approached first ten overs. 27 in 10 chasing 338 is crime." --- Only Sachin can say that and get away with it!
full ball, and he drives this down the ground to long off
slower ball, a full toss, and he is surprised by how high it comes to him. Tapped away to point. He's looking for the full toss above waist height, but it isn't called
51 off 30 balls. Can Saifuddin pull off one of the greatest chases ever?
off cutter, change of pace, and he can flick this away towards midwicket and pick up a single to retain strike
