Almost a yorker around eighth stump, squeezed behind point to bring up victory for New Zealand
BAN Women vs NZ Women, 5th Match at Dunedin, Women's World Cup, Mar 07 2022 - Ball by Ball Commentary
NZ Women won by 9 wickets (with 42 balls remaining)
The World Cup juggernaut continues to roll with Australia taking on Pakistan tomorrow which you can follow here on ESPNcricinfo. Thank you for tuning into our coverage, hope you enjoyed it. I'm Ekanth, signing off on behalf of my fellow commentator, Srivathsa Vennelaganti, and our scorer, Binoy George. Cheers.
Today's game showed that time is relative, the pitch at Dunedin was good, the rain was and might continue to be a threat, and that Bangladesh are willing to take big strides to improve their game. Their running, ground fielding, and Shamima's swat pulls were top-notch. Fargana Hoque made her first World Cup fifty. For New Zealand, the spinners' performances will be a major positive. The pacers were challenged but they are equipped to bounce back. Their batting looks in good order. You can check out S Sudarshanan's match report as it comes along as well.
Sophie Devine, New Zealand Captain: It was a quick turnaround, so we had to put the loss behind quickly. We are extremely grateful to the ground staff for creating the game which seemed unlikely at times. Thanks to the Bangladesh team for playing and the umpires for getting a move on. Amelia and Amy used their experience and slowed things down well. I'm lucky to have her services at my disposal. The wicket was great despite the slow outfield, so I'm disappointed not to have cashed in but Suzie was excellent for us. It was a typical Dunedin surface. We've got a game against India, whom we have a bit of history with in the series last month, coming up. We know their games and will hopefully do well against them, it should be a cracker.
Nigar Sultana, Bangladesh Captain: Our openers did really well, Fargana's first World Cup fifty was brilliant and the lower order did its bit. We have to work on our partnerships, that could have gotten us to a better score here. We have never played in conditions, it was hard to grip the ball and see properly, so there is lots of learn. The batting performance today, after the South Africa game, reflected out learning and was a positive. The spirit and the fightback were good.
Susie Bates is the Player of the Match 79(68): It was a strange day, saw the rain from the hotel and was disappointed. It was good to start after the wait. Thanks to Bangladesh who came out and played. I know the ground very well and knew this was a true wicket and could hit through the line. I want to contribute as much as I can, we have a few massive games coming. My job is just to absorb the pressure at the top. I was trying to lay a good platform and it's nice to get a win after the loss against the West Indies. The cheers from some of the girls from the ODI championship on the ground were lovely. It was nice to be unbeaten and acknowledge them.
6:47 pm: From Sampath: Suzie Bates is the fastest to 1000 runs in Women's World Cup - 21 innings. Previous fastest was Belinda Clark in 22 innings. The batters look happy and Bangladesh were commendable in the field. The wet ball affected their efforts but not getting wickets up top was the bigger issue. They bowled well but the New Zealand pros had answers to the questions. Susie Bates acknowledges her fans in the stands who were flashing her poster. Lovely pictures.
One more run to win, one more ball for the twentieth over to end. Serendipity makes a late appearance
Length ball outside off. Takes the outside edge off the cut to the left of third man. The fielder chases it down and may have pulled it centimetres behind with her fingertips
Around the wicket
Length outside off, gets outside off and paddles it fine to bring up the hundred-run partnership
Length ball outside off, late cuts to third man almost off the keeper's gloves
Full on middle and leg, beaten on the sweep. Looked to have gone down leg

Luke: "My eyes are glued to Cricinfo, counting down the balls to 20 overs..." Six more. Here we go!
Full ball around off, sweeps it behind square and the fielder in the deep dives and saves it really well
Gets on a knee and sweeps a good length ball outside off to wide long-on. That came from the bottom half of the bat
Rozza: "If I'm NZ I would just block every ball to get it to 20 overs ASAP" New Zealand are well ahead. Also, if you're Suzie Bates, going after it is safe
Wide length ball, taps it on its head to the left of third man again
Bowls it full and wide from wide of the crease. Suzie waits for it, shifts guard and reverse sweeps it to the left of third man
Full on middle and leg, swept just behind square to the deep
Length on the stumps, pulled in front of mid-wicket
Around the wicket
Bill Sanderson: "With the 51, Bates passes Belinda Clark for 4th on the all time WODI runs list." Yes, here's the list

Full outside off, worked to the long-on region. Long-off comes across and stops it
Good length ball outside off is cut to deep cover-point
New Zealand need to be over 93 after 20 overs to win by DLS
Full outside off, slashed along the ground to long-on
Cuts a length ball outside off to deep point
Missed stumping It was a full ball outside off. Bates came down the track and tried to slash it over the off-side but got beaten. Fortunately for her, the keeper could not hang on to the ball
New Zealand should be over the DLS score which has not officially known at the time. But if the game goes on for three more overs, the hosts should win
Wide on a length, cut through point to the fence
Wide, length ball. Cut to deep point
