Ireland vs Afghanistan, 25th Match at Dublin, , Jul 03 2012 - Ball by Ball Commentary

ABANDONED
25th Match, Dublin, July 03 - 04, 2012, ICC World Cricket League Championship

Match abandoned without a ball bowled

14.25 Well that is very frustraing as the conditions at the ground are set fair. But unfortunately despite the sun the ground hasn't dried quick enough. That means the points are shared and the second ODI will take place tommorow. Join me, Conor Hayes for that. Goodbye.

14.20 After a very long conversation between the two captains, the groundsman and the umpires the game has been called off. A bowling run up was too wet and there was no chance it would have been dry by the cut-off at 16.40.

12.28 local time The umpires have decided to have lunch at 13.00 local time and will further inspect the pitch at 14.00. Pitch looks to be dry. It is the outfield which is the problem, it is sodden

12.15 Umpires have had a long look and now are having a discussion with both captains. Hopefully will have some news soon.

10:46 local Hello and welcome to day 2 of this One Day International. Good news first - It is sunny out here, Bad news - The outfield is in a bad shape and it will be sometime before we see any action. There will be an inspection at 12:00 local.

Day 1

15.35 local time The umpires have called it quits for today. We will try again tommorow. Join us then when hopefully we will get some play. From Conor Hayes in a soaked Clontarf it's goodbye

15.15 local time Raining quite heavily now. We have a reserve day to play with but the forecast is even worse for tommorow. Ireland had its wettest June on record and it appears there is no let-up in July as well.

14.55 local time Very bad news here as it has just begun to rain. The covers are being put back on. That may be it for the day. We'll wait for official word, of course

14.30 local time After a long look the umpires have decided to have another inspection at 15.30 local time. The cut-off for a T20 is 16.40

13:38 local time Umpires have decided to take another look at 2:15, bowler's run-up is still an issue.

13:10 They have decided to go in for early lunch.

12:42 local Umpires have decided to have another look at 1:15 - the main area of concern now is the bowler's run-up.

11:55 local - Covers coming off now.

11:51 Umpires are still out there in the middle - checking the bowler's run-up area now.

11:40 local Rain has eased a bit, looks like a passing shower and the umpires are out taking a walk through the outfield.

11:21 local Forget about that 11:30 inspection. It is raining heavily now and all the covers are back in place.

10.40 local Umpires have had a look and the outfield is still too wet to start. They will inspect again at 11.30.

10:15 local Some good news here as it is dry now but the outfield is still wet. Covers are off though.

10:00 local Welcome to ESPNcricinfo's coverage of the World Cricket League Championship game between Ireland and Afghanistan. This is the first of two matches between the sides with the other game on Thursday. Ireland lie top of the table with 5 wins from their 6 games while the Afghans have only won half of their matches.

A delayed start looks very much on the cards and I will give you the news when I have it.
