that's the end of the game! Ojha tries to repeat the shot over midwicket but gets a top edge that goes high in the air towards mid-off where Kulasekara judges the catch to perfection
Sri Lanka vs India, 5th ODI at Colombo, Aug 29 2008 - Ball by Ball Commentary
10.16 pm: Sri Lanka have wrapped up a comprehensive victory by 112 runs. Their total of 227, later reduced to 215 off 44 overs, was always going to be difficult to chase under lights. Thushara played the innings of the match - his maiden half-century - to prop Sri Lanka to a fighting total.
India were on course until Raina played a rash shot immediately before the rain interruption. They collapsed after play resumed, losing seven wickets for 33 runs in 7.1 overs.
The prize though has already been won by India. They had the series wrapped up before the match started. The scoreline reads 3-2 and the visitors won't be too fussed about today's defeat.
I'll have the presentation for you in a bit. Until then ... watch Cricinfo Sportscenter and other exclusive videos on Cricinfo TV.
"It was a good way to finish the series but the Indians played well and deserved to win it. But credit to the boys for the way we came back. We kept making mistakes through the series, we were not consistent in the batting department," says Jayawardene.
Nuwan Kulasekara is the Man of the Match for taking four wickets today.
The squads and match officials line up to get their medals. Dhoni has been adjudged the Man of the Series for scoring 193 runs and playing a couple of match-winning innings. He's picked up a car for his efforts. He comes back to pick up the trophy but he calls the youngest member of the squad - Virat Kohli - to come up and lift the trophy. He did that in the CB Series as well, it was Piyush Chawla on that occasion.
That's it from us at Cricinfo for this series. Thank you for all your emails. On behalf of all the commentators, this is George Binoy signing off. Good night!
Ojha's gone after him! He plants his front foot forward and hits Mendis over midwicket for four
defended on the front foot towards point
full ball outside off stump, Munaf backs away and lofts the ball wide of the fielder at mid-on for four, he connected extremely well
India's lowest score in Sri Lanka is 146, it looks like they will set a new low today.
banged in short over the stumps, Munaf backs away and lets it go
Munaf Patel is the last man.
caught! That's no 9! Full ball outside off stump, RP slashes at it and edges the catch to second slip, Jayawardene catches it at head height, that ball traveled to him quickly
Ojha stays in his crease and plays the ball down to third man with an angled bat
Fernando pitches in line with the stumps and seams the ball across the left-hander, Ojha defends but gets beaten
that's a length ball and RP hits the ball through midwicket, the outfield is a little slow so the ball won't reach the boundary
Ojha pushes forward to defend but gets beaten yet again, Mendis bowls a wicket maiden
another offbreak pitches in line with the stumps, draws Ojha forward, and then spins past the bat
Ojha gets beaten by the offbreak that spins past his forward defence
defended on the front foot towards the off side
Sri Lanka have a superb chance of bowling India out for below 100. They way have lost the series but it'll be a fantastic way to end. Ojha is the new batsman.
that's plumb, absolutely plumb! That's the straight one from Mendis, it pitches on off and heads towards middle, Zaheer pushes forward in defence and gets hit on the pad in front of middle, no doubt there
Zaheer leans forward and defends to silly point
RP moves back and defends a short of a length ball towards point, actually that was more of an outside edge
defended on the off side on the back foot
defended on the back foot
was there a nick? Sangakkara appealed but Fernando didn't, Doctrove said not out, there was a massive nick as RP tried to push off the back foot, big nick, big sound, big deviation and Sangakkara took the catch easily, but the bowler didn't appeal and so the umpire said not out, Sangakkara went up immediately though
the length is full on off and middle once again, Fernando is looking for the yorker, RP hits it wide off the fielder at mid-on
