Same ball essentially. Swiped off the edge to long-on.
Giants vs Vipers, 27th Match at Dubai, ILT20, Feb 04 2023 - Match Result
Top-two decided, these two teams could face off twice. Hope you enjoyed the taster. The ILT20 Super Saturday continues at Abu Dhabi, Sharjah Warriors are batting against Abu Dhabi Knight Riders. Head over there to catch the action. Ciao.
Shimron Hetmyer, POTM: It was pretty tiring actually, to get out of the room. I was just trying to play with a clear mind. Tough to come out for a must-win game. (His approach) I try to keep it as simple as possible, make sure to watch a few balls and see what the wicket is doing before taking off.
James Vince, Giants Captain: Good performance on the whole. 180 was a good score, was one of the slower pitches. Chased a game against the Vipers previously, toss is less important in a day game. Bowlers did well to pull things back. Coming back from pressure has been a big plus for us. Hales' wicket was big, took a sting out of them. How people will pull up will dictate whether we experiment or not.
Colin Munro, Vipers Captain: Losing's never easy but the way we went about it was disappointing. We were poor in the field, but luckily finish in the top two. The drops are flabbergasting, maybe it's not paying attention in the right time. You win and lose games but it's the attitude that counts. Giving bowlers a go, Curran rested with the ball gave a few combinations for us to think about. Rohan Mustafa has been great, looks like he's a cat on a hot-tin roof sometimes when he gets out but has done well.
5:52pm: Handshakes all round as Giants complete a 25-run win to secure a spot in the first qualifier. The innings lifted off and went down a cliff. Drakes and Brathwaite were punished early on, Hales was muscling them. Mustafa was clearing the front leg and tried slapping or carving everything. That worked till Jordan and Co cut the carnival short. He was nicked off, The 17-year-old Aayan slowed it and kept the full ball away from Hales' arc. The opener holed out to deep midwicket and the downslide picked up pace. A couple overs of spin made way for Wiese and Jordan's mix-ups of paces and lengths. Howell and Curran looked to build a stand but failed. Curran kept trying till the end and made a chancy 42* but Giants fell well short.
Slow, full and outside off. Curran tries to muscle it over extra. Off the bottom goes the skier, lands safely at cover. They finally take the single.
Low fully on middle, Curran bows low and tries to drive it. Falls over, inside edge off the flick takes it to deep square. Goes halfway down for the single but decides to go back.
Back of length over the stumps, slapped to long-off. Off the bottom, along the ground. Curran says no to the single.
Misses and that should be the game. Fullish ball on leg, Curran tried to whip it square like he did last time and missed. Late review called for. Curran's front leg was well outside leg, the ball's hit him on the knee-roll. The impact is outside leg.
Misses the flick, hits pad and fizzles towards square leg. Run denied. Length on leg, tried to work it fine.
Brathwaite, in his first game of the tournament, has the ball, 28 needed. Surely a bridge too far. Curran's trying his best, can he pull off a miracle?
Tries to cut the short ball aerially but gets it off the edge, goes in the gap between deep third and deep point. Single taken.
Single or big shot? 29 off 7 needed
Full toss outside off, Curran tries to lift it but can only slap it along the ground to mid-off. No run taken.
Wide yorker, just a bit fuller this time. Curran tried to guide it late, bat hit ground instead of the ball.
Wide and full, lays the horizontal bat on the floor to steer it to deep-backward point
Giants bide some time
Full again, driven over mid-off this time. Was around fifth, Curran's front leg was planted just outside leg. Back leg just outside off. Stood still and lifted it flat over the fielder.
Drills a cover drive. Was wide and full, pace on. Curran was in his crease and powered it like it was a half-volley
Dropped by the skip at mid-off. Short ball just outside off, Curran tries to muscle a pull, went off the sticker. Vince backtracked with a tilt and looked to take it low. Missed
Curran has no idea of the ball's location. Keeper has it, Curran sets off for the run before immediately being sent back. No throw. Short and slow outside off, Curran tried to muscle a cut and missed it. Waited a second or two and took off.
Nails the yorker this time. All Curran can do is block it to the bowler
Full, not far from a yorker but the error margin is low. Curran went back in the crease and lifted the drive over mid-off
Goes across and works the length ball on leg. Rolls the wrist and tucks his leg to get it fine, deep fine runs across and keeps it to two
Low full toss slips out at the stumps. Whipped to deep midwicket
Three-run over, Jordan's skills are flexing.
Effective free hit. Lintott makes room and tries to carve it, he's outside leg and the ball just outside off. Beaten.
Low full toss outside off, tries to guide it. Opens the bat fully, goes off the bottom to short fine
