Over the wicket, it has landed outside the pitch as he aimed for a wide yorker watching him shuffle across off-stump and it's called a no-ball. The rain has got much heavier so the players are going off, similar situation for WF when they were chasing against MINY the other day and it was Steve Smith on strike that day hitting bowlers all around the park and WF were ahead on the DLS and eventually won that game. But according to the forecast today, it's probably going to be a passing shower and hopefully we'll be back on the field. The ground staff has covered the pitch
Texas vs Washington, 5th Match at Morrisville, MLC, Jul 08 2024 - Ball by Ball Commentary
Frustratingly the match has been called off. The sudden downpour has done its damage. With the massive puddles and poor drainage at the venue, there was a fleeting prospect of more action. Both teams will get a point.
6:55pm: Rain has thinned but the drainage is not good at Morrisville and the chances for a resumption are becoming slimmer. It looks like the umpires might call it off given the remote chances of getting the ground ready for a restart. MLC needs to work on improving and upgrading facilities at these venues for sure. Already, it's the second game where rain has played spoilsport.
Five overs must be bowled to the chasing team to constitute a match. Last time, WF were fortunate against MINY as rain arrived in the eighth over and they were four runs ahead on the DLS. Today, they'll still be the happier side to walk away with one point and remaining unbeaten at this nascent stage of the season but this situation doesn't bode well for the tournament. Let's hope there are no more called-off games
6:35pm: Light rain now and there are blue skies visible. It has got much brighter but there are some puddles forming on the ground. The ground staff will need some time to get the conditions fit for resumption. The initial forecast predicted rain for later but it came pouring down earlier. Stay tuned for further updates
It does look like Australia missed a trick by not picking Steve Smith for the World Cup. I mean, you have to use his experience, and he would have been a handful in conditions that were tough for batting. It needed experienced campaigners to battle through the conditions, tricky situations, and he could have certainly navigate through choppy waters
Andrew: "Smith seems determined to prove it was a mistake for his WC exclusion! Looks in great touch "
Karthik Sundara: "Come on Australia, Steve Smith for WT20 2026 please!"
It has started to drizzle
Over the wicket, a full-bunger wide of off, slapped away to sweeper cover, who does Faf turn to now? The current rate is 15.25!
Pummels it over deep backward square for a six, this is poor bowling. Another half-volley on the pads, he stays deep and times it to perfection, heaved over the leg side, the brutal assault on bowlers continues
Slugs it up and over extra cover for four and brings up WF's fifty in no time! Length wide of off, slammed away with ease
Fuller and slanting across off, umpire reckons it's arcing away from the white tramline on off and gives it a wide
Clouts it way over deep backward square for a humungous six, fuller and outside leg stump, got in a brilliant position, a stable base and lifted it over the rope much to the delight of fans
Round the wicket, full at middle, gives himself room and smashed it away from long-on for a four, seized on the juicy half-volley
Over the wicket, short of a length angling in at middle and cramping him for room as he steps away to the on side, square cuts it to cover-point
Low full-toss on middle, a harmless delivery and he bunts it straight to Dwayne Bravo who drops a dolly, came in and pouched it but then it just burst out of his hands, hit him high on the palm, that is a clanger, how costly will that be in the context of this game?
Attempted yorker on middle and leg, nudged off the toes to the right of deep square who intercepts close to the rope
Again repeating the same mistake, bowling on the legs and getting hammered. Bowls a fuller off-cutter and he hoists him over deep backward square for a 85 meters six. Smith off to a blistering start
Good length at the stumps, prodded down to mid-on
Touch short and straying on the leg-side, pulled over deep fine leg for a 207 ft six, so far so good from WF
On a length at middle, skips down the track and drills it down in the direction of the bowler who manages to stop it
Round the wicket, short on the stumps, lifts his front leg and powers it away behind square leg for a four, erred in his line and paid the price
Shortens his length and slants it in from wide of off, dabbed down towards cover-point
Goes for the wide yorker option, pushed down to mid-off and takes a scampered single, Stoinis with a shy at the stumps
Round the wicket, back of a length and angled in from fourth stump, cuts it down the floor past the diving short third for a four, wristily done
Took the pace off and landed on a length outside off, he heads down the pitch and checks his shot into the covers, tears across for a run
Over the wicket, length ball angling in from outside off, shuffles across his stumps, gets inside the line and effortlessly flicks it over deep square for a six, class written all over that shot
Naveen-ul-Haq to bowl from the other end
