that will be that! Ramanandi finishes with a boundary, but India finish the group stage with a spotless record! Half-volley on leg stump. Ramanandi gives himself oodles of room and then carves it behind point. Oman finish 21 runs short of their target and that, given the gulf in experience between these two sides, is a more than decent display!
India vs Oman, 12th Match, Group A at Abu Dhabi, Asia Cup, Sep 19 2025 - Ball by Ball Commentary
10:54pm That will be a wrap from us. The group stage has come to an end but the Super Four phase begins as early as tomorrow, with Bangladesh, who had to rely on a favour from a fierce rival in Sri Lanka, rekindling that rivalry tomorrow. Expect fireworks and lots of entertainment but until them, from all of us here at ESPNcricinfo, it is goodbye!
Sanju Samson, Player of the Match: It was a bit hot and humid out there. Working on my fitness for the past few weeks. We have a good trainer in Adrian. It has been a while (since I batted). Really good to spend some time out in the middle and feels really good to contribute. They bowled really well. Have to give them credit for the way they bowled and batted. They bowled well in the powerplay, they were swinging the ball up front. You take two balls to set your eye in and that is the only way to go in this format. Any contribution for the country, you have to take the positives and keep learning and keep going.
Suryakumar Yadav, India captain: (On batting higher than number 11) I will try from next game (smiles). The overall impression, I feel…Oman played an unbelievable brand of cricket. (Knowing their coach) I knew there would be something (from them). It was amazing. I really enjoyed watching them bat. It is a little difficult when you are siting and don't get an opportunity. Still doing your best for the team, credit goes to them (Arshdeep and Rana). (On the Hardik run out) It is unfortunate but you cannot keep him away from the game. The way he bowled and fielded, he gets a plus one for that.
Jatinder Singh, Oman captain: I am extremely proud of the unit. The way they came up, they had their plans and executed them well. They were very much in the present. So proud of the way they have shown their character in the crunch situation. The hype of the tournament was there in the mind. We lack a little experience and exposure. This game was a blessing in disguise. We have a (T20) World Cup qualifier happening in Oman and the boys are ready. (On Ramanandi) I was telling him that (deflecting the ball onto the stumps and running out the non-striker) has become his favourite dismissal. He is a utility player and a team man. The way he shows up, the energy he passes on to the others, it is really commendable. (On the Qualifiers coming up) We are grouped with Papua New Guinea and Samoa, and the boys have shown great character in front of the world number one team. The boys are ready and are looking forward to it.
10:31pm Not sure what to make of that run-chase. Oman, for a long time, seemed content to bide their time and keep wickets intact. Towards the end, courtesy Kaleem and Mirza, they gave it a rattle but that would have only made their fans wonder if they could have pressed on the accelerator a little sooner and put India under a bit more pressure. That said, this was an encouraging display with the bat and Oman will be better for this experience.
As for India, well, for much of the second innings, it felt they were going through the paces. They tried a few different things, including using eight different bowlers, but almost all of them lacked the penetration India showed against Pakistan and the UAE. In the end, though, they got the job done and now that this is out of the way, they will have their eyes firmly set on the Super Four, and on the clash against Pakistan on Sunday.
Last ball of the game coming up
excellent yorker, tailing back in and following the batter outside leg. Ramanandi jams down on it and just manages to keep it out
four more! This is short again but Ramanandi, this time, is waiting for it. He backs away to the leg side and swats it over mid on!
shot! Slanted in full on leg stump. Ramanandi gives himself ample room and cracks it back past the bowler for four!
slanted into leg stump, and this seems to come in further with the angle. Ramanandi, backing away, swishes at it and misses. That was not far from leg stump either
Ramanandi to try his luck now
there it is - wicket number 100 in T20I cricket for Arshdeep! And he becomes the first Indian to do so in men's T20Is! Arshdeep takes a cue from Hardik's playbook and badgers this half-way down on middle and off. Shukla swipes at it but cannot control it, only picking out Rinku at deep mid wicket!
India have been penalized for their slow over-rate and they will be forced to have one extra fielder in the ring now. Seems a valid penalty, given this innings has gone on for almost two hours
goes straight up, but lands into safety this time! Another short ball outside off and this gets up to the batter's right shoulder too. Shukla cannot control his pull and his swipe goes straight up before landing into the vacant backward square leg region
spliced up, and Hardik has a wicket! Dug into the track on middle and off. This climbs through and gets big on Mirza. Having backed away, he looks to forehand this over mid off but all he manages is a tame chip to Rinku, who moves a little to his right and does the rest!
Syed Kamran Azh: "No matter what the outcome is. Very well played Oman"
back of a length on middle and off. Mirza backs away and slaps it back towards the bowler, who gets down sharply to his right and fields it cleanly
brutish short ball, pitching on off and then decking back in sharply with the angle. Mirza, while trying to get out of the way, sees if he can upper-cut it but the ball is too hot to handle for him. Good for India that Samson got his left glove to it as well
35 off 10. Five sixes from here would be very helpful
given a wide, but Hardik wants this reviewed. And India do so! Speared in on a back of a length down leg. Mirza swings at it with all his might and there seems to be a slight noise as the ball passes the bat. Umpire Faisal Afridi clearly did not hear it, but Hardik thinks he might have a very good case here. UltraEdge comes up and there are murmurs, although the bat seems to be slightly away from the ball at that moment. The third umpire concludes there is a gap, and Mirza survives!
Mirza becomes just the third batter from an Associate nation to score a T20I fifty against India. Noor Ali Zadran (Afghansitan) and Kaleem (from earlier today) are the other two.
finds the gap, and finds the fence! Slower ball that lands right in the slot. Mirza plants his front foot and blasts it between mid off and extra cover!
slower ball on a length, following the batter just outside leg. Mirza does not know what to do with it and in the end, gets a scratch off the toe-end as he stabs at it
Hardik to bowl the penultimate over. 40 off 12
full outside off. Islam clears his front leg and looks to tonk this into tomorrow. Only connects with fresh air for the second ball running
Babu: "Come on Oman. You've got 8 wickets in hand. Produce some magic " -- Looking increasingly difficult with each passing delivery, though...
sharp short ball just outside off to welcome the new batter. Islam throws everything at it but only grabs a handful of fresh air
Zikria Islam is the new batter in. Oman need 40 off 14
caught expertly on the fence, and Kaleem's vigil comes to an end! Slower ball on a length on the pads. This deserves to be smashed into the stands but the lack of pace means Kaleem does not get the connection he wants. That brings Hardik into play at fine leg and he tracks the ball all the way before flinging both of his hands to his right. Makes the ball stick and then runs along the rope without ever stepping onto the cushion. Excellent awareness, balance and catching technique, and India have a vital breakthrough!
banged in much shorter and wider outside off. Kaleem has a swish across the line and seems to miss it. There is a bit of a chat among the players, some of who think the ball may have grazed the toe-end, but India opt against the review
that is another magnificent blow! Back of a length on the stumps. Kaleem dances down the track, creates room for himself and creams it over mid off!
smart, smart batting! Slower ball on a length just outside off, bowled at a shade over 111kph. Kaleem shimmies across, holds his shape and scoops it over short fine leg!
48 off 18, and Oman have made this a little more uncomfortable for India than expected. Still India's game to lose, though, and Oman will need to produce something special to get past the line. Kaleem receiving some treatment on his right hamstring between overs. Could be a bout of cramp. He has put in the hard yards tonight. Rana to bowl the 18th
into the blockhole on off stump. Kaleem jams down on it and digs it out towards short third
Farhan: "One bad over can actually change the game." -- But 49 off 19 is still a stiff ask.
