Sri Lanka vs Pakistan, 1st T20I at Hambantota, Jun 01 2012 - Match Result
That is it from us for this game. Abhishek Purohit signing off. Join us for the second T20I on June 3. Cheers
Mahela Jayawardene: "I thought [the Latif 'catch'] landed on my fingers, it hurt a lot, but the umpires thought otherwise. It was played in the right spirit. It is a challenging wicket, we did not assess it well when we batted, we thought 160, but 140-150 was a good score. The fielding was absolutely brilliant, all the bowlers did well."
Mohammad Hafeez: "We had our moments but we couldn't capitalise on them. Perera made the difference, we were looking not to give away too many runs. I feel we have to work and come hard in the next game. Tanvir was brilliant and the spinners did the job. We shouldn't get too disheartened as it is only one loss."
Thisara Perera is the Man of the Match. Perera: "This is my first match after injury. I really enjoyed today."
Sid Monga is updating his match report. Read
They bowled 17 wides but they have still defended 132 by 37 runs. That is a very comprehensive margin. And they were 89 for 7 at one stage before Perera blasted them to 132. Pakistan lost two wickets off the first two balls, and never recovered.
Ben: "The difference is: SL recovered from Tanvir's 3 in 3 overs but Pak never recovered from 2 in 2 balls..."
bhaskar: "So they dont need misbah? in reference to an earlier comment, its better to sleep than die i'd say. Misbah lends much needed solidity to this side."
swing and a miss outside off this time
smack! Ajmal swings from just outside off and gets it down to the cow corner rope
that has been slammed straight back at the bowler, who gets a hand to it and regrets it as he winces in pain, the ball rolls down the ground
slogged from outside off to wide long on
Chandimal runs in from fine leg but cannot get to the ball even as he falls forward, another top edge, off a hook this time
full toss nudged to deep square
going for the yorker, not quite there, played out to the off side
deep midwicket almost overran the ball as he came in from the rope but then stopped and took the ball as it came down, Gul had tried to push at the slower one but hit it high in the air
pushed to cover
down the track and drags it to deep midwicket
moves across and turns it through square leg
pushes forward to one outside off and defends
full ball nudged to midwicket
bowled this time, backing away to a flat and shortish one, trying to dab it to third man, missing and losing his bails
a clean strike for once, down the track, to the pitch, and a crisp blow over the straight rope
another one falls short of third man, Gul swings at the pitched up ball, but the ball does not carry
Dilshan saves more runs at backward point, a slower one cut to his left, he gets down to it with a dive
short again, swivels for the pull, big top edge bounces and turns away from third man, who does well to take it as it almost flies bounces past him
this time he gets down and out of the way of another bouncer
