Pakistan vs West Indies, 2nd ODI at Abu Dhabi, Nov 14 2008 - Ball by Ball Commentary
Pakistan win the match by 24 runs, and the series 2-0. The momentum was certainly with them, coming into this game, and they ensured they didn't let it slip after pulling off a miracle in the last ODI on the 12th. They put 232 on the board today, not a formidable score, but enough to put pressure on the West Indies, particularly after both their openers fell without scoring.
West Indies had a good chance to level the series, but they started off poorly, succumbing to Sohail Tanvir's swing. Sarwan and Chanderpaul put on 92 for the third wicket and although Sarwan kept rotating the strike, Chanderpaul initially failed to get a move-on. He scored a defiant century, but the acceleration was left a little too late, and the middle and the lower order didn't provide him with enough support to ensure West Indies overhauled the target
Umar Gul and Sohail Tanvir were stars for Pakistan, taking five wickets between them. Tanvir, though, was a class above the rest, using both swing and bounce early on, to dismiss Gayle and Chattergoon, who put on 125 in the first match, for ducks, to give Pakistan the early initiative.
Chris Gayle: "We are very disappointed. We played terrible cricket today. Tanvir gave Pakistan a good start, but we didn't recover. Although we are a young team, we need the guys to step up and make a name for themselves."
Sohail Tanvir is the man-of-the-match for making 26 off 20 balls, and taking two wickets.
Tanvir: "We had 250 as a target in our mind. But I knew the ball swings well here. I just tried to play straight when batting, and worked a lot in the nets, particularly on mu away-swinger. I think I bowled with good control today."
Shoaib Malik: "We decided to go in with the extra spinner today, and he bowled well. But I think we fell short of a good total. We bowled pretty well though and I hope we carry this form into the next match."
That's it folks. Pakistan have won the series but there is still a game to be played. Join us on the 16th for the third and final match of this series. Until then, from Siddhartha Talya on the commentary and Raghav on the scoring desk, it's goodbye and goodnight!!
