Notts 351 and 177-3 lead Sussex by 241 runs
A sparkling 82 not out from Notts captain Jason Gallian was the highlight of the third day as Notts maneuvered themselves into a position of dominance as they seek to collect their first home win of the season. Heavy thunderstorms drove the players from the field shortly after tea denying the home side the opportunity of pressing home their advantage.
Gallian had come to the crease, after the fall of Guy Welton, straight after lunch and he immediately set about the Sussex bowling. Umar Rashid spilled a chance at cover, off the bowling of James Kirtley but, that apart, it was a masterclass from Gallian as he raced to a half-century off just 55 balls with 10 spanking boundaries, mostly through the covers.
Darren Bicknell looked to have been a little unlucky, given out lbw when it appeared as if there might have been an inside edge and then the in-form Usman Afzaal was clean bowled by Billy Taylor for a duck.
Gallian though, looked in optimum form as he smashed a short ball from Robin Martin-Jenkins out of the ground and into the Fox Road car park.
John Morris, like Gallian, hit a ton against Sussex at Hove last month and he helped his captain to put on 70 runs in quick time before heavy rain ended the day's play.
During the morning Sussex's first innings had ended on 287, with the overnight not out centurion Richard Montgomerie eventually falling for 129. AJ Harris picked up 3 of the 4 wickets to fall, to finish with figures of 6-110.
