Notts 351 (Bicknell 144) lead Sussex 235-6 (Montgomerie 116*) by 116 runs
Despite making early inroads into the Sussex batting order Notts were unable to seize the initiative and enforce the follow-on on the second day of their championship match at Trent Bridge. A stubborn sixth wicket stand of 60 between Richard Montgomerie and Umar Rashid rescued the south county after they had been reducd to 139-5. Despite the loss of Rashid for 25 Montgomerie remained unbeaten when bat light brought a premature halt to the day's play with his side on 235-6.
Richard Montgomerie went on to reach a merited century shortly after tea, when he clipped Harris through midwicket (202 mins 157 balls 15x4s 1x6). In the next over, the 51st of the innings, Franks picked up his first wicket when Rashid slashed to Stemp at point. The 6th wicket partnership had effectively ensured that the follow-on would be saved.
Nick Wilton led a charmed life when he came out to bat. A waft at Franks flew high over second slip - Usman Afzaal got his fingers to the ball but couldn't prevent it flying for 4. Afzaal had to go off for treatment and Wilton repeated the shot in the next over off Reiffel and again got away with it.
Jason Gallian brought himself into the attack and bowled a tidy six over spell but with drizzle in the air and 3 lights showing on the scoreboard meter umpires White and Constant brought an early end to the proceedings.
Earlier in the day Notts reached a fourth batting point before being dismissed for 351. Darren Bicknell for 144 and Andrew Harris for 19 were the last two wickets to fall - both to Jason Lewry, who finished with 6-89.
