Super Kings win! Look at the Super Kings go! Slower delivery dug into the track outside off stump. Nortje comes down the track and swings wildly, but only in vain! And that is well inside the tramlines too! In fact, Nortje has nicked that through to the keeper! The Super Kings have held their nerve here, and have send thousands of fans at the Wanderers into absolute delirium!
Super Kings vs Capitals, 11th Match at Johannesburg, SA20, Jan 17 2023 - Ball by Ball Commentary
9:28pm Phew! I still need a bit of time to catch my breath. The action in the SA20, though, does not stop. MI Cape Town will be taking on Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the afternoon fixture tomorrow, with these two teams (the Capitals and the Super Kings) at it again in the evening. Until next time, this is me (Shashwat) signing off on behalf of Binoy George and everyone at ESPNcricinfo! Goodbye, goodnight and take care!
9:25pm That was an epic game of cricket - a game that ebbed, flowed, ebbed, flowed, and ultimately ended in the Super Kings' favour. They began well, sending Jacks and Rossouw back in the powerplay. Salt threatened to disrupt their plans but the hosts kept picking up wickets, even as the Capitals stayed within touching distance of the required run rate. In the end, though, the Capitals just did not have enough batters to capitalise on the quick scoring earlier in the innings. Credit must also be given to how the Super Kings held their nerve. They only had 42 runs to defend in the final five overs, yet, emerged victorious by six runs.
For the Super Kings, du Plooy was the star of the show earlier in the day. Phangiso, too, provided another glimpse of his prowess, picking up a four-wicket haul, which included the crucial scalp of Neesham. In many ways, that wicket turned the tide of the game. Had Neesham been a little more cautious after hitting three successive sixes, things could have panned out different. Cricket, though, is always a game of what ifs and indulging in that tonight will be doing a disservice to what has been a spectacular game!
7 off 1 now. A six needed to tie things up. Surely not a Super Over? Nortje to face the final ball of the innings (barring any wides and No balls, of course)
in the air and taken at long off! Back of a length delivery outside off stump. Rashid looks to smash it over long off but is slightly late on the stroke. The ball pings off the splice towards du Plessis, who eats up ground to his right and holds onto a clutch catch!
7 off 2 now
back of a length delivery outside off stump. Rashid shuffles across and slices it over extra cover before galloping across for a brace
9 needed off 3. Surely the Super Kings will back themselves to get this done now?
slower delivery on a back of a length outside off stump. Rashid swings himself off his feet but only connects with fresh air
Rashid on strike. Can he pull another rabbit (or maximum) out of the hat here?
slower delivery on a length on leg stump. Parnell swipes at it and squirts it down to short fine leg for just a single
slower bumper on leg stump. Parnell does not pick the variation and swings too early. Does not make the contact he desires as the ball bobbles towards the bowler
10 needed off the final over. Shepherd to bowl
big moment, big shot, big player! Length delivery and that is just where Rashid wants it! He clears his front leg and massacres it over long on
full delivery just outside off stump. Rashid gives himself room and gives it the lot. The ball whistles past the bat, and somehow misses off stump too!
Rashid in at 10. Can he get a boundary away?
oh dear! This is pure hara-kiri! Low full toss on middle and leg stump. Parnell backs away and drills it towards mid off. He then dashes across to the other end, only to see his partner not interested in the single at all. In the end, Pretorius has to sacrifice himself, with Verreynne taking off the bails at the batter's end! That is a moment of absolute madness!
edged and it flies away! Back of a length delivery outside off stump. Pretorius has an almighty swipe at it and gets a top edge that flies over the keeper's head. Theekshana runs across to his left from third man and pulls it back in
short and this one tucks up Parnell completely. He has a hack at it anyway but can only manufacture a single to deep backward square leg
back of a length delivery on leg stump. Pretorius swivels nicely and pulls it down to deep backward square leg for one
Joseph to bowl the penultimate over
banged into the track on leg stump. Parnell makes room and flat-bats it straight back to the bowler, who flings out his right palm but can't hold on
Mannan: "This match is so well-poised. Why does this league keep getting better!!" -- This one is going to go down to the wire too
safe! Length delivery on middle and off stump that holds in the surface. Pretorius closes the bat face early and gets a leading edge that agonizingly evades backward point
back of a length delivery that slides down the leg side. Called a wide by the umpire and rightly so
Migael Pretorius is the new man in
edged and taken! Coetzee has broken this game open, yet again! Back of a length delivery outside off stump. Bosch has another loose waft at it and after countless tries, he finally manages to nick one through to the keeper. Coetzee, the Super Kings and the thousands at the Wanderers are absolutely pumped!
breaks the shackles! Length delivery just outside off stump. Bosch stands tall, swings at it and muscles it past deep mid wicket
short and wide outside off stump. Bosch gives it the lot but can't lay any bat on it. The dots are piling up now!
back of a length delivery on leg stump. Parnell glances it down to short fine leg and hares across to the other end. The throw hits Parnell and the Super Kings are just enquiring if he changed his line of running. The umpires are now having a look, and it seems like the third umpire will be called into action again. Parnell seems to change his direction to get in line with the throw, although the counter argument is that he did so to get off the centre of the pitch. And, the third umpire has bought into the latter. Parnell survives. But you feel this will be discussed long after the game is done!
back of a length delivery outside off stump that skids through. Bosch has a swipe at it and misses. The keeper, though, whips off the bails in a jiffy. He pleads the umpire to go upstairs and Erasmus obliges! Bosch's back foot has not moved an inch off the ground!
