New South Wales 4 for 225 (Maddinson 98, Henriques 59) v Western Australia

New South Wales prospered thanks to fifties from Nic Maddinson and Moises Henriques, reaching 4 for 225, before rain and bad light allowed only 7.4 overs to be bowled in the final session of the day.

Opting to bat, New South Wales lost Scott Henry early, but Ryan Carters and Ben Rohrer took the team past 50, before Andrew Tye had Rohrer lbw for 23. David Moody then bowled Carters for 33 to reduce New South Wales to 3 for 81.

However, Maddinson and captain Henriques, returning from a groin injury, added 137 for the fourth wicket to lift the visitors. Maddinson cracked 98 off 119 balls before he was dismissed by Nathan Coulter-Nile. Rain and bad light then forced the umpires to call it a day after a couple of pitch inspections.

Play will start an hour early for the next two days to compensate for the lost time. The weather forecast, though, is not all that promising with heavy storms predicted in Perth.
