0.3 to HE van der Dussen, One slip in position. Dragged on! Shaheen Afridi right on money, no looseners to begin with. Flummoxes him with a full-length delivery, he was not expecting that, gets some movement as well, van der Dussen leans out to drive and ends up chopping it back onto the stumps and the bails are flying everywhere. That is a vital breakthrough as Shaheen Afridi punches the air ecstasy, got the early wicket he was looking for. How often he pegs team back inside powerplay? Found his mojo back after a bit of a rest and been bowling well since that Australia series. 1/1 13.5 to DA Miller, Slow ball does the trick! Miller wanted to continue along his merry way, wanted to deposit the short of a length delivery at middle outside rope over midwicket but found Irfan at deep midwicket who hangs onto it brilliantly, right man at the right position. Miller knew he didn't get hold of this one; not much elevation and struggled for timing but nevertheless he has regaled the crowd with a plethora of picturesque strokes. 135/6 15.6 to N Peter, Prolonged appeal in unison for an lbw and up goes the finger in agreement! Lovely change of angle, bit short and zinging it back at middle and leg, tries to pick it up off his pads and is early through the shot, goes for the review. Clipping leg-stump, rest looks good, and that is enough to stay with the on-field decision. Not much resistance on show after Miller's wicket and you could sense a change in Pakistan's body language after that big wicket and they've hunting like a pack of wolves since then and picking wickets a frequent intervals. 141/8

1.3 to MP Breetzke, Oh, that's an unforced error, wanted to attack and make use of the fielding restrictions, steps away to the leg side, it was a half-tracker with some width and he bases it straight to Saim Ayub at point who swallows it down his throat, Breetzke will be admonishing himself for that false stroke. Abrar stands still and folds his arms and apparently that's how celebrates a wicket; he has the last laugh. 10/2 3.4 to RR Hendricks, Oh, that's magic, can't attribute this to luck but this is sheer skill and craft! Bowls a pitch-perfect googly and he leans back to cut, ending up making a big, horrible mess of his stumps so all of a sudden South Africa lose their third and are in a bit of a bother! Abrar is pumped up, Pakistan are pumped up! Disturbed the leg-stump. 28/3 14.3 to A Simelane, Dances down the track in a bid to thwack him over midwicket but the ball turned, sneaked through the gap between bat and pad and Rizwan did the rest. Joy and anguish in one frame. Lovely sight for the bowler as Simelane waited for a few deliveries and had it enough, looked out of sorts against spin and short stay at the crease comes to an end. Didn't pick the wrong'un. 136/7

8.3 to H Klaasen, Got the big fish! Irfan Niazi is a safe as a house in the outfield. Dug in on a length and targets the off-stump, he takes on the short ball and tries to hoist that out of the park but didn't get the requisite distance, comfortably pouched at deep midwicket and the South Africa captain departs after getting a start. This is huge. 71/4 11.1 to D Ferreira, Oh that's an innocuous dismissal! Finds the man at 45 to perfection and watches the sky in disbelief. Back of a length harmless delivery on leg and he just nudges it straight to the fielder who didn't have to move a muscle to gobble that up, quite a few soft dismissals already in this innings, just when they were threatening to put pressure and go berserk, another wicket falls down. 104/5
4 | 0 | 53 | 1 | 13.25 | 9 | 2 | 6 | 0 | 0 | |
19.6 to GF Linde, Goes big again but this time finds Irfan at deep midwicket; went miles into the night-sky and then settled into Irfan's big bucket hands. But what a wonderful knock; he has given South Africa a competitive total and given the fragility of Pakistan's batting, I think they'll fancy their chances. This delivery was fired fuller and outside off, he had to go for the big shot but this time the slog-swept wasn't timed to perfection and the top edge brought his demise.. 183/9 |

2.3 to Babar Azam, Slip in place. Banged in short around the line off, tries to go for an upper-cut and ends up slicing it away to Simelane at deep third who takes a brilliant tumbling catch. Babar goes without troubling the scorers. Not quite on top of it and was trying to get a move on but perishes in the process, big wicket. 16/1 19.2 to Mohammad Rizwan, That hung in the air for a while, short on an irksome line outside off, was lining for a pull and ended up swatting it in the air, Peter snaffled that inside the ring at backward point and with his wicket, the hopes for clinching a thriller go up in smoke as well. 166/8

14.4 to Tayyab Tahir, You could just sense something was about to happen! Pace-off back of a length delivery wide of off and the plan works to perfection, stands tall and spanks it downtown but straight down Ferriera's throat at long-on who doesn't drop at this occasion. A timely dismissal as the task becomes steeper for Pakistan. 109/4

6.3 to Saim Ayub, Gets the danger man out! Back of a length outside off, hangs back, held his shape, waited a touch and then lifted it but found Breetzke at sweeper cover and looks crestfallen, slowly taking the walk back to pavilion; contrasting emotion on the other side as Simelane roars in celebration!. 56/2

9.3 to Usman Khan, Down on one knee, trying for a full-blooded slog-sweep against the turn, it landed on leg and turning away, he wanted to deposit that out of the park but finds Hendricks at deep midwicket region and it's becoming a pattern for him to find fielders too often; worrying signs for Usman who is struggling with consistency. Like how he tries to go hard and likes to attack but the ratio of failures is getting higher and the approach is backfiring on most occasions. 75/3 17.1 to Shaheen Shah Afridi, Around the wicket, brilliantly bowled, pushed him out of the crease by tossing it full and wide of off, Shaheen loses his balance and Klaasen whipped off the bails in a flash, he looks in trouble. Waiting for the third umpire confirmation. Actually, it's a lot closer than what I thought, he might have got his toe touching the line. Even if he gets out it doesn't really make much difference as Irfan can probably connect a few off the middle, being a proper batter, so this wicket could be a blessing in disguise. Yes, so the bails were removed, and the foot was not grounded so he has to go. 151/5 17.4 to Irfan Khan, thrashes merrily through the line and it didn't come off as he intended. Took a step forward and thumped downtown but didn't get enough distance; fantastic over from Linde; he has turned the game on its head. 153/6 17.5 to Abbas Afridi, Traps him lbw? This over keeps getting better and better for South Africa. On a length and straightens at middle and leg, he goes back to defend and plays down the wrong line. Immediately referred upstairs. No bat involved confirms ultra-edge. Ball tracking says pitching outside off, impact in line and hitting leg stump and that's that. Three reds on the screen and Linde is on a hattrick! Wow, the emotion, the pride, Linde really gives his all. 153/7 |
