and that's the way to finish it! A big full toss, launched over deep square leg and Mooney ends it in style
SA Women vs AUS Women, 1st T20I at Canberra, AUS v SA [W], Jan 27 2024 - Ball by Ball Commentary
AUS Women won by 8 wickets (with 5 balls remaining)
Australia win by eight wickets. They always looked in control and it was another chasing masterclass from Beth Mooney, although South Africa made them earn it until those last two balls from Ayabonga Khaka. A solid all-round display from the home side to take the first points of this multiformat series. Alyssa Healy gave them a great start to the chase and her onslaught ended up proving important in breaking the back of it. South Africa had their moments, but were a bit short with bat, ball and in the field. They will have to be at their very best to beat Australia. It's a quick turnaround to the second game tomorrow and we'll be back to bring you that one. I'm off to the Gabba and the build-up to the third day's play will start shortly here. For now, from Andrew McGlashan, it's goodbye and thanks for joining us.

So it's 6 from 6. This has gone a deep than looked likely at the halfway mark. Khaka to bowl. Can she find an early dot ball?

Very good spell from Kapp although the wicket as mostly likely come too late. Not McGrath's best day at the crease
cleaned up! McGrath's struggle is over. A slower ball at the stumps, McGrath giving herself some room and it clips the top of off stump
uses her feet and drives to deep cover
full and straight, nails the drove into the non-striker's stumps
full at the stumps, Mooney was taking guard well outside leg, threads a drive square through the off side. Superb batting
round the wicket, follows her with a short ball, goes over the top edge as Mooney looks to ramp it away
a slower ball, McGrath loses her shape as she aims down the ground, dribbles to long on
Kapp for her last over
finds mid-off again, scampers the single this time
gives herself room outside leg, drives powerfully but finds mid-off
full outside off, drags it through midwicket

Any modicum of pressure has gone
drags the length back, Mooney advances and slices it off a thick outer part of the bat, in the air but wide of short third
that's Mooney at her best, gives herself a touch of room and drives wide of the cover. Brings up a 44-ball fifty
