And that's it. Sri Lanka have completed a crushing win. Fine spirited performance from Sri Lanka. The end came when the Indian captain Dhoni went down the track for the big hit but ended up dragging it to his stumps. Randiv roared. Sanga, Mahela, Randiv enveloped each other with a hug. The rest of the team-mates converged.
Sri Lanka vs India, Final at Dambulla, Aug 28 2010 - Ball by Ball Commentary
What a fine win. Both teams line-up to shake hands. Please to wait for the presentation ceremony. Do read the bulletin by Sid Monga.
Dhoni: " ...We just didn't spend enough time in the middle. If we had wickets .. Credit goes to Sri Lanka. They batted and bowled well. Our bowlers gave them a bit of width and that's one thing you don't want to give Dilshan. He smashed us all around the park. The team that plays the best cricket on that particular day deserve to win. It was a good learning curve for the young batsmen in our side. Usually we don't get these sort of conditions."
Sangakkara: "It was a good toss to win. The way the openers batted - we talked a lot about getting through the first 10 overs. Mahela and Dilshan started well and Dilshan continued to bat really well. Perera lengthens our batting but his bowling has been very impressive in the last couple of games. Champaka Ramanayake has to take a lot of credit; he has done a great job with the fast bowlers. The discipline in line and length has been the real key for us."
Man of the match is Dilshan: "The last three innings I got a start but didn't capitalize. I thought today I should do it. We have lost the last three finals here against India. Everyone came and performed well today."
Man of the series is Virender Sehwag. He also wins the most admirable player of the series and wins a car. He won a similar car in the Test series as well. Tony Greig says he will end up with a garage-full of cars!
Kumar Sangakkara now steps forward to lift the cup!
That's it from us. Thanks for logging on. Please do jump to the England v Pakistan game.
low full toss, eased towards long-off. Hmmm
floated outside off stump, driven to long-off
skips down the track and mistimes the drive to short midwicket
spins down the leg side
goes down the track and mistimes it back to Suraj
full delivery around off, squeezed out to point
Nehra leans forward to try lofting it over mid-off but ends up lobbing it to mid-off. And then they were one. Sri Lanka are closing in on a crushing win here
banged in short and Nehra top edges the pull shot over midwicket
full in length outside off, pushed to point
fullish outside off, driven to right of long-off for a single. They think about the second but won't take the risk
yorker on the off stump line, from round the stumps, dug out to the off side
Sudhi with more sarcasm!: "I think Dhoni waiting for last 2 overs.. so that he can hit 12 sixes and win the match for india"
leans across to defend it to the off side
some extra bounce on that top spinner, left alone
this time he takes the single after pinging long-off
low full toss and it has been driven to long-off. No run taken of course
on the legs ,flicked past square-leg but he wont take the run. The game meandering along ..
full delivery on the middle, pushed out to midwicket
length delivery outside off, edges his defensive poke to the on side
Anand: "What is Dhoni trying to do ? Stay for full 50 overs. Maybe he should be taking some risks and try to match the RRR. there is no point in taking dot balls and stay for full 50 overs."
drives this full delivery to long-on
