Cheers go up as Parnell runs in. Weatherley pulls the bouncer along the ground, to deep-backward square
N S-Chargers vs Brave, 8th Match at Southampton, Men's Hundred, Aug 06 2023 - Match Result
All-action weekend keeps rollin'. Welsh Fire, who will face Oval Invincibles - the hosts, have won the toss and chosen to bat. Follow Alan Gardner's coverage there. Goodbye from here on behalf of our scorers, M Venkat Raghav and Sudeep Poojar.
Matt Short, POTM: Good start with the bat. Few nerves before coming in but super happy with the win. Would've been nice If I was selected at the draft but happy with what I got. Not so much turn in the first innings. Curators have done a good job. Ball got stuck in the pitch a bit that works for me. I was down to bat at 3 in the first game but Lyth was out unfortunately. Ball was coming on nicely, we used the wind well. Boundaries are short which worked. (On the lbw he overturned on review) Was sure it hit me high. IPL was a high-pressure comp, I learned from different coaches and players, hope to get better and better. Lads and coaching staff have been in the 6-7 days I've been in and we've gelled well. Plenty of indoor practice in the last couple of days, Get the fitness out on game days and we need to stay flexible.
5:28pm: A thorough thumping from NSC as they pick up a 60-run win against the hosts. They were set back by the rain just before the first innings ended as Rashid and Parkinson extracted spin. But their top five being unable to get going in the chase cost them. Tim David was the only batter to get a few big ones in but he was beaten often as well. Topley and Parnell held their lengths well. With 202 as the target, the lack of an explosive start meant that Brave fell behind early and never caught up. A 60-run loss is a big hit on NRR for them but NSC will be chuffed with that.
Makes room and Parnell goes hard-length, top-of-stump height to keep him cramped. Slapped with limited timing to long-off
Low full toss is clipped from just above the shoe, to deep midwicket
Very full outside off, drilled to long-on
Yorker on middle, inside edge off the open-faced bunt takes it to long-on. Batters push for two and are met with (possibly ironic) cheers from the crowd
Yorker outside off is nailed and beats Garton's jamming bat
Brook takes the high ball this time. Comes in from deep-backward square and takes it with a tumble to the right. It was a fullish ball that David tried to heave it with all his might
Swings himself off his feet almost as he tried to impart so much power but the full, wide ball beats him
Shelled by deep midwicket, what's more they take two. Hose went to the right and fumbled it before grassing it. David had swiped across in an attempt to fetch it from outside off
Length outside off, square punch takes it to deep point
70 off 10, mathematically very much impossible
Smeared over square leg for a very long 84-metre six. Stood still and the arc of the bat swing went from point to square leg
Full ball is lofted off the bottom, Wiese runs in and gets half-volleyed by the ball. Goes through him but stops before going over
David swings hard, misses and gets hit either on or around the box, he sits with his feet stretched in front as he recovers
Back of length outside off, guided to short third
Places it right between deep-backward square and deep midwicket, who run across and fail to stop it. Shortish ball at the hips, played it with ease.
Topley to close out? No, it's Parnell
Inside edges it back onto the stumps. Du Plooy's struggle ends. Fullish ball at the stumps tails back in, du Plooy tried to slog it over long-on and had his middle stump rattle
Heaves but plinks it. Shortish ball outside off, David went for the pull and got it along the ground to deep midwicket
Almighty heave. Beaten. Wide on a length outside off, went below the swing
Clipped to the pocket at midwicket off the hips. Crowd tagged along to egg the batters on to make the second but why deny David strike at this point?
Slower back of lengther slips out very wide. Past the off-side tramline and let go
