slashed away for four, Fire win with 10 to spare! Streaky boundary, thick outside edge which squirts away between the keeper and short third. Fire sit third for the time being, while Superchargers, Rockets and Spirit are out
N S-Chargers vs Fire, 30th Match at Leeds, Men's Hundred, Aug 22 2023 - Match Result
So the equation is pretty simple. Oval Invincibles are in the final, and Manchester Originals are almost certain to be in the eliminator. If Originals win tomorrow, they'll play Fire in the eliminator; if Brave beat Originals, they'll join them in the eliminator at Fire's expense. The only possible complication is if Brave absolutely hammer Originals... but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. Until then, thanks for your company tonight and we'll be back for more tomorrow.
Harry Brook is the Match Hero: "Obviously I felt good out there and hit them well tonight. I was just trying to hit the ball hard and straight. I had a lot of clarity going out there. We had a big margin to try and get through. The tough thing is getting together with newcomers... you have to try and bond as quick as possible. We haven't nailed it this competition. [World Cup?] We'll see what happens. I just want to concentrate on the next game, whoever I'm playing for. [Catch?] I wouldn't say it was acrobatic... quite a nice catch."
9.02pm: An incredible evening at Headingley. Superchargers needed a huge win and were 10 for 3 when Harry Brook walked in... he smoked the fastest Hundred century off 41 balls, and his side still lost by 8 wickets with 10 balls to spare! Welsh Fire have done everything they can to qualify, but need Manchester Originals to beat Southern Brave tomorrow...
James: "Assuming Welsh Fire win the game, who gets the Match Hero award? Normally it goes to someone on the winning team, but how can it not go to Harry Brook? 105 not out, and the most ridiculously brilliant catch you'll ever see." -- If it's anyone else, we riot!
Craig: "Full rebuild required for Super Chargers for Hundred 2024. Truly awful 2023" -- They'll probably want to keep hold of HC Brook...
yorker, swung out to deep midwicket
DaWolf: "Assuming Fire win this, they should look at their last game not this one. It took them 93 balls to score 110/4 against Spirit, some early wickets in the chase so they consolidated rather than rolling the dice. But that was the chance for the big run rate boost."
pumped back over his head for a straight six! Attempted yorker, hardly misses it, but Clarke clears the front leg and swipes over the rope from deep in his crease!
full, past the pads as Clarke looks to whip leg-side... not given! Clarke looks bemused. Some way down the leg side... did it brush the pad?
DadaVi: "Brook should go into theatre after that catch in 3 acts"
low full toss, toe-ended to long-off
attempted wide yorker, but too wide for Wells to reach
Potts.
Paul: "Bairstow c Hose b Carse. Bit unfair that to Brook."
Donald Alexander: "Give the ball to Harry. How about a Harry Hattrick to crown the day??"
Azeez: "Not for the first time we had a one man show at Headingley!!!"
short again, drilled to Brook at deep midwicket on the pull
banged in, back of a length, smoked away with the back hip driving through! Powerful pull, Clarke is flying!
This has been completely surreal: a Harry Brook exhibition match with some complicated qualification scenarios playing out in the background.
driven to wide mid-off with a high front elbow
Wells wanders out at No. 4.
oh my word! Brook adds an absolutely outrageous relay catch to his unbeaten 105.... The umpires will check it's a clean catch but it's sensational athleticism regardless. Banged in halfway down, swung away towards midwicket. Brook took the catch on one leg, flicked it up to himself, jumped back and took the catch again... then very nearly overbalanced while taking it at the second attempt, flicked it up again, and Hose eventually held onto it! Unbelievable work on the boundary line, one of the best you'll see! Incredible awareness. Huge cheer from the crowd and Brook gives them the double thumbs up
wide yorker, slower ball, Bairstow is through the shot early
How quickly can Fire get this done, to put pressure on Southern Brave tomorrow night?
crunched through wide long-off for four more! Sits up from a good length and Clarke slaps it hard with fast hands
slower-ball bouncer, swatted back, just out of reach! In fact, might have burst through the hands as Topley tried to grab it in his follow-through..
mistimed to mid-on
Just a run a ball required now
into the gap between square leg and midwicket once more! In the slot, muscled away with the bottom hand taking over
wide yorker, toe-ended through mid-off for a scampered single
Topley returns, hunting a breakthrough.
sharply-spun legbreak, dabbed to backward point. Rashid is done for the night and for the season
slow googly, sits up off the pitch and Clarke nails a pull into the gap between deep square and midwicket! Fire on a roll now
slapped down to long-off
smeared over the midwicket boundary! Bairstow is finally grinding into gear. Sits deep in the crease and lofts Rashid over the leg side
