Over the wicket, lured her with the bait and she bites it, given plenty of flight and lands it on touch fuller length on middle, tries to smoke that over midwicket and finds Smith who takes a stunner at midwicket while diving backwards, a stellar bowling performance from Superchargers!
N S-Chargers vs Phoenix, 19th Match at Birmingham, Women's Hundred, Aug 06 2024 - Ball by Ball Commentary
Alice Davidson-Richards, Match Hero: It was quite hard to bat on as you saw it was quite a low-scoring game but nice to get over the line. Quite tough on a good length, a lot of slow balls, even by the end of it didn't feel like I was actually middling or think I managed to middle one or it was probably a forward defence. Yeah, quite tough out there. Just trying to work out how to build an innings, trying to find the gaps, and where the fours could come from and where they are gonna miss, it was just sticking there and hope for the best.
That is a seriously potent bowling attack that can deflate any opposition on their day and become nightmarish if there is some assistance from the pitch. A sorry-looking scorecard for Phoenix, who looked out of sorts right from the powerplay and didn't compete at all with the bat. Batting first on a slowish wicket where it was tough to time the ball, Alice Davidson-Richards gauged the conditions well and made a doughty 49 off 42 deliveries. Annabel Sutherland continued her rich vein of form and made a brisk 30 but couldn't push on and played a rare false stroke. In reply, Phoenix had a sluggish start in the powerplay and looked confused. Sophie Devine blocked quite a few deliveries, Sterre Kalis faced five balls before getting out for nought and Ellyse Perry's misery ended after an 11-ball seven. Seren Smale hung around for a while before getting bowled while trying an improvised stroke.
There was nothing much to speak about the batting performance; this crushing defeat will dent Phoenix's net run rate as they had a torrid, forgettable day with the bat. All Superchargers' bowlers kept it under one run per ball. Kate Cross took the big wicket of Amy Jones, Grace Ballinger picked up a couple, and Linsey Smith and Georgia Wareham each took three wickets. Sutherland also contributed with one scalp. It was an easy day at the office for the Superchargers, who bagged their third win in a row and are enjoying a terrific run. Men's game starting shortly, coverage has already started. Lobbed up on off, shields her stumps with a feeble push down the pitch
She is a master of her craft, round the wicket, length ball, angles in, gets it to dip and drift, kept low and beat her wild swing down the ground, middle stump has been disturbed. It's a no show from Phoenix with the bat
Slower and fuller wide of off, reaches out and that hung in the air for a while, Cross is everywhere today, sprints to her right and plucks it out of thin air, that's a phenomenal catch, she is having a superb day in the field, sprinting, showing her fitness and athleticism, taken a gem. Phoenix continue to capitulate
Charges and tries to work it around the corner, gets rapped on the pads
Over the wicket, fired it quick on shorter length outside off, tries to cut but only connects with air
Yanks front leg out of the way and pulled to midwicket, canters across to the other and will keep the strike
Touch fuller and spun back from outside off, goes deep and stops it down the pitch
Clatters the stumps, inverses her stance to try improvisation, ball was quick and fired straight at the stumps, beaten by the pace and couldn't execute the shot, didn't want to die wondering
Length at leg, tries to slug it over midwicket, gets the outer half of the bat and it lands in empty area at long-off
Tossed fuller on leg, clipped to long-on for a single
Full-toss and she pounces on the gift, gets down low and clubbed it past mid-on for four, placement is superb
Length outside off, spanked away uppishly towards deep cover-point
Hammered in short and veers in at off, pumps it straight to mid-off who ran to her right and took a nifty catch, Cross with neat work in the ring, Wilson departs for six, six wickets down. Another false stroke from Phoenix batter. Not a strong connection
Too short on leg, swivel pull around the corner, finding the fielders too often
Round the wicket, slammed it short and gets it to zing back at middle, takes a step forward and dinks it down to mid-on
Shortish and floating outside off, dragged across the line to long-on for a run
Changes stance and misses the reverse ramp
Bumper on off, tennis ball bumper, gets on top and slugs it leg-side, top-edge balloons up and falls at vacant short mid-on, falls while running down the pitch
Inverses her stance and went away from the line, sharp glovework while standing up
