holes out to deep mid wicket, and the Invincibles have been consigned to the heaviest-ever defeat in this competition (in terms of runs)! This is angled in, and also chasing the batter outside leg. Gibb advances but has no real room to free her arms. Shovels it straight to deep mid wicket, and the Brave make it five in five, and they do it with an utterly commanding display!
Brave vs Invincibles, 19th Match at Southampton, Women's Hundred, Aug 18 2025 - Ball by Ball Commentary
5:35pm That will be all for this game. The men's match should get up and running within the hour, and the hope is that that will be slightly more competitive than this one. Do join us for that contest. Until then, from Vairavan and myself (Shashwat), it is goodbye!
Sophie Devine, Player of the Match: (On winning yet another POTM award) I feel a bit embarrassed because today was a team performance. So many people that should have been standing here instead of me. Today was really exceptional from the group. The great thing about this group is we have spoken about different plans (at length) and for the bowlers to execute that. It does not matter who it is, to execute that against world-class players is a skill that will hold us in good stead (throughout the tournament). Really important to focus on one game at a time. It is a cliché, but it is a cliché because it is true. We know we have some big, tough games coming up. We will reflect and celebrate the success tonight, but we will also look to finish this competition strong.
5:30pm An 89-run win, and it could have been more had Wellington not found the fence a few times towards the end. The Brave were just that dominant, and they have now entered the record books as the team to inflict the heaviest-ever defeat on an opposition. Wellington's unbeaten 18 was the highest score for the Invincibles, with only three others making it to ten. They were thoroughly outplayed, and the only thing that went in their favour was the toss...
Coming back to the Brave, they will be chuffed with this effort. Their batters turned up, and their bowlers then did the rest, almost showing the Invincibles what they had been missing throughout their bowling innings.
very full outside off. Gibb has a jab at it and shanks it towards mid wicket
follows the batter outside leg but with a full toss. Wellington drives it to long off
lobbed up full and wide. Wellington shuffles across and sweeps it on the bounce to deep backward square leg
length outside off. Gibb plants her front foot and tugs it towards long on to get off the mark in the Hundred
slowed up on a length just outside leg. Wellington skips down and works it towards deep mid wicket
hung up on a length wider outside off. Wellington advances, reaches out for it and drives it towards mid off
shot! Wellington is enjoying herself here. She skips down to this floaty delivery outside off and scorches it back past the bowler!
short and wide outside off. Wellington continues swishing at it and has another swish at thin air
nicely done! Slow, short and wide, and Wellington capitalizes. She gets on top of the bounce and steers it between backward point and short third!
slower ball that goes awry and slides down leg. Wellington swings at it and seems to miss it. Or maybe not. May have been a scratch somewhere, because that has not been called a wide
off-pace on a back of a length outside off. Wellington wafts at it and only grabs a handful of fresh air
slower ball on a back of a length on middle and off. Wellington spots it, waits for it and pats it gently into the off side
Gibb, on debut, is the last batter in. She is at the non-striker's end for now, though. And Bell returns to the attack. Bell, remember, is on a hat-trick
caught in the ring, and the Invincibles are nine down! Floated up a mile outside off, and Smale, somehow, decides she wants to reach this and go inside-out. The ball is so far from her, though, that she cannot generate any power and clinks it off the bottom part of the bat. Adams tracks it from extra cover, back-pedals a few paces and then grabs it neatly over her left shoulder!
angled in on a fullish length on leg stump. Wellington backs away and slices it towards backward point
Wellington joins in on the fun too! Given plenty of air outside off and Wellington is down the track in a flash. Goes through the line and caresses it over the bowler's head!
shorter and wider. Smale goes back and eases it towards deep point
smashed! Tossed up into the slot outside off. Smale plants her front foot and pounds it over the bowler's head!
Peter Parker: "Quick, get Bell back on to try and complete her hat trick."
back of a length outside off. Smale hangs back and punches it towards mid off
slowish on a length outside off. Wellington reverse-sweeps it towards backward point
