New Zealand vs West Indies, 1st Test at Wellington, Dec 01 2017 - Ball by Ball Commentary
That's it we have from the Basin Reserve in Wellington. Thank you for your feedback and time, plenty of other Test cricket today, so stay tuned. Bye.
2.29pm Neil Wagner takes nine wickets in the first game of the home summer, leading his side off the field in what has been a clinical display from New Zealand right through this Wellington Test. Wagner sparked this game to life on the first morning with an incisive display of short-ball bowling.
New Zealand were never going to squander that advantage thereafter, declaring with a first-innings lead of 386. West Indies battled their way through their second innings, showing some fight and resolve on the third day, but they seemed lost today, and eventually crumbled to an innings defeat.
Neil Wagner is the Man of the Match: "A tough graft, the wicket got better as the Test match went on. we bowled well in partnerships. Conditions were tough, a stiff breeze. We had to adapt our plans. Credit to their batsmen, when we got stuck into them again, they took it on, they are a quality team. We had to readjust our plans."
<>Jason Holder: "We didn't help ourselves with the way we batted, very indecisive with the way we batted. We knew what to expect, but just didn't handle it. We got better as the game went on, some soft dismissals which didn't help our cause. Just need to find ways to pick ourselves up."
Kane Williamson: "A superb effort all around, a great Test wicket, pace and bounce for the seamers. Got a lot from that back of a length, not our plan, we tried to swing and seam it. We've seen West Indies through the last few series they have played, they've got better, so we'll expect them to come back."
four more. Full down leg, Cummins backs away but the ball skews off the inside half and races away to the backward square leg boundary

short delivery outside off, Cummins sways away
another short delivery on off, Cummins backs away and swings, but misses it by quite some distance. The wicket not too far away

shortish delivery outside off, Gabriel goes after it, no contact
somehow falls into no-man's land. Another short delivery around off, off the shoulder of the bat towards gully. Terrific bowling

goes short, a bouncer outside off, goes over Gabriel's late pull
good length outside off, blocked into the off side. The yorker not too far away?
Jacob: "Ugh those knee impacts are terrible. Sometimes it feels like you'll never walk again, then after a couple minutes you're mostly fine." Just like cramps.
bouncer outside off, Cummins sways out of the line. Not pretty, but effective
a nice yorker on leg, skewed away into the leg side
nailed. Full and straight, Cummins backs away and shovels a drive back past his partner. Four through mid-on
full outside off, Cummins backs away and muscles a mis-timed drive through cover
good length outside off, misses his drive by a mile
yikes, what has happened there? Goes through Cummins' flick to hit him right on the front knee, no protection there. Cummins got his bat down so awkwardly that the bat brushed the pad away, exposing his knee. And he goes down writhing in pain.
Boult comes back to finish this
short outside off, played away
through the gully region for four. Short and wide, Gabriel uses his height to ride the bounce, but in no control whatsoever
