that's it, West Indies have levelled the series with a straight shot, straight of mid-off, and turns back towards the pavilion
West Indies vs Zimbabwe, 2nd ODI at Providence, Mar 06 2010 - Ball by Ball Commentary
West Indies won by 4 wickets (with 13 balls remaining)
So in drought-hit Guayana, West Indies have ended their drought of international wins, registering their first success in international cricket since August last year. Well done both teams for a close match. Thanks for joining us, this is Sidharth Monga, your commentator, saying goodbye.
Post-match presentation
Chris Gayle "It is a relief. Hopefully this is the first of many to come. I must say Zimbabwe played really well to push us so far. I must commend the boys on coming back from the defeat. The way I got out in the end I was scared a bit, but Narsingh played really well, and he deserves the Man of the Match. If I had seen the team through, I would have put this innings in one of my top three innings. It was a difficult wicket, they bowled really well, and it was real hard work. Mind over matter."
Narsingh Deonarine is the Man of the Match "Someone had to take the responsibility. The skipper earlier took such a big responsibility, so I needed to bat well with him. A big thank you to the fans too."
Prosper Utseya "Maybe 20 runs short. We just didn't have a partnership up front, we kept losing wickets at crucial points. Just not enough runs on the bard."
Finally Gayle manages a small smile on his face, shakes hands with Otis Gibson and Dave Williams. Zimbabwe are disappointed but they put up a show defending a modest total. Gayle had to play so out of his skin that he went 81 balls without a boundary at one stage of his innings. Deonarine and Gayle finally managed to take West Indies home. The Guyana crowd told the story of the chase: you could almost hear the quiet when West Indies more than 30 overs without a boundary. The pressure built up and built up until home boy Deonarine opened up, and the crowd expressed its glee and cheered even singles. The big crowd - there despite the loss two days ago, there despite the drought - deserved a favourable result. Well done Zimbabwe nonetheless. They were superb with their spinners, on a turning pitch.
defends a length ball back to Price
Deonarine doesn't want any glorious finish, he pushes this down to long-on, takes a single
full delivery, hit powerfully, but straight to mid-off
Deonarine playes another lovely shot, steps out and chips it straight down the ground, over mid-off, the idea is to clear the infield and not the ground, and he does that well, and despite a Mastinkeyeri dive the ball reaches the rope
Baynham Goredema from Zimbabwe is hoping for a Malinga four in four! Can Price do it? All deep fielders on the on side
slower ball, bunted into the covers, and Sammy backs away a long way and makes sure Deonarine is on strike to face the next over
drilled down the ground, a fumble by Elton at long-on gives them the second
Gayle has finally taken his pads off
walks down the track, makes it into a low fulltoss, can't get it past extra cover
yorker, well bowled, dot ball
Mohamed Z Rahaman takes us back to another match where Milton Pydanna played: The whole Pydanna story started today after another gentleman by the name of Pydanna sent us feedback and Rahaman wondered if it was Milton. Here goes: "That match WI vs Pak in whick M. Pydanna, Kalli, Lloyd and Bacchus played...was a humdinger.
Pak scored all of 127/9 in 40 overs and WI were lucky after G. Greenidge scored 3 of the last ball of the match for the win.
127 is not even a good 20/20 score these days."
short again, gets on top of this one, keeps it down, and gets Deonarine on strike
oh Sammy boy, he plays an irresponsible pull shot, gets the top edge that falls short of fine leg
and that's another extra, wide down the leg side
15 off the last four, Deonarine the key for West Indies. Mpofu comes back. Gayle has still not taken his pads off, he still has a stoney look on his face. Baynhama Goredema from Zimbabwe has given up already. He writes, "20 Extras so far! Thats where Zim threw away the game! But we have enjoyed it thoroughly"
nicely played, good good shot, charges down the track, makes it into a half-volley, and then plays it straight down the ground, to the right of long-on, and comes back for two
Deonarine looks to tip and run, but Sammy makes a good call of no as Mpofu is very quick at point
into the pads again, and flicked away to deep square leg; Ray has a word with Sammy as he takes the single
into the pads, misses, can;t get leg-bye either
stays low, Sammy gets the bat down in time, this time Ray has an angry look on his face
oh no another wide, down the leg side, this game would have been closer but for the wides
Sammy stays back to play a fullish delivery, arms go up in the air, Ray walks towards the batsman, smiles and stares, good drama
Tyrone: "This batsman pollard reminds me so much of the slugger Ricardo Powel, there tends to be much abuzz of thier batting ability but they never seem to show up for the game." Ray Price, the final throw of the dice, comes back to bowl
pitched outside leg, turning towards middle, defended
