James Anderson has been included in Lancashire's squad for their vital Championship match on Wednesday against Hampshire.
It had been expected that, with use of the loan system, Anderson might play for Glamorgan in order to nurture him back slowly into bowling ahead of the Ashes. However, he successfully returned to first-team action today in Lancashire's Pro40 win over Glamorgan - Anderson's first game in anger since April.
Lancashire confirmed to Cricinfo that they will seek guidance from the ECB to ascertain the number of overs Anderson will be permitted to bowl. At the moment that level is set at 12 overs per innings, but following his promising return on Sunday, taking 2 for 31 in the Pro40, there could be enough confidence to increase that number.
On returning from England's tour of India in April this year, Anderson was ruled out of action with a stress fracture of his lower back. Anderson's wickets for Lancashire helped ensure their place in Division One of the Pro40 next season.
