Vanuatu's national carrier was today announced as the official airline partner for the East Asia - Pacific (EAP) Cricket Cup to be held in Port Vila from 23-29 September 2005. EAP's major cricket tournament for the year will see teams from Cook Islands, Indonesia, Japan, Samoa, Tonga and Vanuatu compete in the first-ever international cricket event staged in Vanuatu.
Air Vanuatu, which flies to five destinations throughout the South West Pacific as well as to Sydney and Brisbane, will be the official tournament airline carrying all teams and officials into and out of the country.
Tim Anderson, Development Manager for the ICC East Asia - Pacific region welcomed the support of Air Vanuatu "The EAP region greatly appreciates the support of Air Vanuatu for the EAP Cricket Cup. The tournament provides an ideal opportunity for the airline to raise their profile in countries across the region and to be associated with a sport that is rapidly growing in popularity in Vanuatu".
"Air Vanuatu, as Vanuatu's national airline, is very proud to be associated with this important event" commented Terry Kerr, the airlines Chief Executive Officer. "The airline is building strong relationships with countries in the Pacific and our East Asian neighbours in Japan and Indonesia will also be impressed by our service and staff".
"It is a great honour to be associated with an international cricket event such as this and I am looking forward to seeing some exciting cricket over the next couple of weeks" continued Vira Timbaci, Air Vanuatu's Marketing Manager.
The EAP Cricket Cup commences on Friday 23 September and concludes on Thursday 29 September.
