Hampshire Cricket has appointed Bruce Reid, the former Western Australian and Australia bowler as bowling coach for the month of April.
With Peter Hartley now on the full panel of umpires list, Hampshire has moved for the 6'7" Aussie. Reid nearly joined Hampshire as an overseas player in the late 80s, but had to pull out due to back problems.
Reid (40) who played 27 Tests and 61 One-Day Internationals has already worked with three Hampshire bowlers this past winter. Alan Mullally, Dimitri Mascarenhas and James Hamblin have been at the Western Australian nets in Perth where Reid is the bowling coach.
Team manager Paul Terry, who arrives at the Rose Bowl on Monday next, was delighted with the short term appointment, "Bruce is someone I know very well, he has been there and done it, and I both respect and trust him. Everyone he has coached has a healthy respect for him, and the way he gets his message across. I like the way he works."
Hampshire's Director of Cricket, Tim Tremlett said, "Bruce Reid was a highly regarded player, and has become the type of coach that brings with him a wealth of experience. He has worked in Perth with Paul Terry, and although he has other commitments throughout the year will prove I am sure to a useful addition to our coaching staff, albeit for the short time he is with us.
