The favourites ruled on the opening day of the ICC Americas Region Under-19 Championship in Toronto.
Bermuda's Christopher Douglas took 4 for 4 in just 3.3 overs to give his side an eight-wicket win over Argentina on the opening day of the Americas Region Under-19 Championship in Toronto. Argentina won the toss and chose to bat only to be bowled out for 89 inside 34 overs - Gabriel Gonsalez was their top scorer with 20. Bermuda needed only 13.3 overs to chase down the modest target. They were helped on their way by 30 wides.
USA also won their first game of the tournament with ease after opener Henry Wardley added half-century stands with Abhijit Joshi and Gregory Sewdial to take his side to a mammoth 325 against the Bahamas. Orlando Stuart was Bahamas' most successful bowler with 4 for 79 in ten overs. Bahamas made no serious attempt to chase down the total. Opener Turan Brown carried his bat for 32 as Bahamas were bowled out for 76 in 35 overs.
Hosts Canada skittled out Cayman Islands for 84 in the third game of the day with Zain Mahmood and Arsalan Qadir taking three wickets each. Zachary McLaughlin (20) and Sacha DeAlwis (28) were the only Cayman batsmen who made it to double figures. Canada's openers Hiral Patel (53*) and Ravindu Gunasekara (20*) wrapped up the game in 8.4 overs. Mahmood was named player of the match for his figures of 7.2-4-4-3.
On Wednesday, the hosts will play Bahamas, Cayman Islands will meet Bermuda, while Argentina will go up against USA.
