Boje undecided what to do

It is still unclear, according to South Africa's SuperSport website, whether Nicky Boje, who had been named as the South African vice-captain, will actually leave next Thursday for their two-Test tour of India.

Boje, 31, is unsure whether the Delhi police will follow up on his alleged involvement in the match-fixing shenanigans which were uncovered during their last tour there in 1999-2000 - he was named by one witness, but has always denied any involvement. They had asked both him and Herschelle Gibbs to complete questionnaires over their involvement with match-fixing, which were completed and returned last month, but have kept silent since.

There is speculation that Boje did not complete the questionnaire under oath and will follow Gibbs's decision and stay at home. Should Boje not join the squad, Boeta Dippenaar, his team-mate at Free State, will be made vice-captain and his squad place will go to Charl Langeveldt.

If Boje does receive guarantees that he shall not be prosecuted, he would leave for India ahead of the main party, but would be accompanied by Gerald Majola, the chief executive of the United Cricket Board, and other legal representatives. Last week when the squad was announced, Omar Henry, South Africa's convenor of selectors, made clear: "Nicky has indicated to me that he is very keen to tour, but the ultimate decision must be taken by the player himself."
