Footscray Edgewater Cricket Club, a premier club from Victoria, Australia will arrive in Hong Kong on Friday for a brief tour against the 20th ranked international side in the world, Hong Kong.
The Bulldogs, as they are known in Australia, visited Hong Kong two seasons ago but went home with only one win under their belt. This year the visitors believe the Hong Kong boys will get a suprise.
"We are here to win every match and don't see this as a friendly tour. We owe Hong Kong," said FECC coach Barry Nievandt, ahead of their departure from Australia.
"We are now heading into our season in Australia and this tour is vital to ensure we are prepared for round one and that we hit the ground running. We are leaner and fitter than two years ago and we feel we know the conditions better in Hong Kong this time around," he added.
After a very promising start FECC finished 12th in the Victorian Premier League last season with only 6 wins. Players to watch out for are Dean Russ, who was the Bulldogs best performer with the bat, scoring over 420 runs at an average above 35, and new recruit Wesley Robinson who has played 35 first class matches, including a Chairman's X1 match against india where he made his highest first class score of 143.
"It is great to be able to host a side such as Footscray Edgewater as they are very competitive and play a different style of cricket to what we see being played in Asia. I have no doubt this tour will be tough and exactly what we need going into the ACC Elite Trophy next month," said Charlie Burke, the National Coach of Hong Kong.
Local cricket supporters will get a rare opportunity to see the full Hong Kong men's team in action while also seeing some of Australia's promising cricketers.
